Update! This is my WIP kit, 1/144 HG Astray Red Frame. He was sort of my practice kit as I explored ways and materials for panelling and hand painting.
I learned some valuable lessons first hand as this is my first time to do panelling and hand painting.
1. Industrial grade paint thinner could melt the plastic kit. It melted one part of the leg which I eventually had to carve out.
2. Rubbing alcohol, way better and economical thinner for Mr. Hobby Aqueous paint.
3. Panelling materials, Gundam marker is still the best for those who are not confident to do the wash thingy. I tried 2 marker alternatives commonly found in the office; I treated the kit with Mr. Clear first.
> Faber Castell FinePen 1511 (black-permanent solvent based)- lines up well, dark after 2 passes. You have to have steady hands as it is quite diffucult to clean up. Though it can be cleaned with cutton buds with alochol, it ruined my clear coat which was also solvent based.
> Edding 363 white board marker (black). - I find this cool. This is what I used on the arm cover of the astray, easy to wipe out excess... I might be using more of this type, I just have to find a smaller tip.
The samurai is not yet done and decals not yet placed and that top coat. I have to practice more on panel lining, still messy and I guess I have learn more how to master the virtue of patience.
The kit
================
This is my first kit which I did panel lines and some paint on. Feel free to comment, constructive criticisms and suggestions are most welcome... I am a newbie, be gentle... ya.ha.ha.ha.
This is still snap built really, though some parts were cemented, line the inner legs and arms. Next, I will have to learn and practice sealing the joints...
I want to build either my MG Crossbone or Strike Freedom soon, so I am making preparations, by building my HG's first...
