Any packages, parcels, or just about anything that is being imported here, with a value of $50 and above will be subjected to import duties or Customs tax. Whatever shipping company/courier you use, you will still need to pay something. There's no escape... and with Customs, it's like a lottery. Sometimes you get lucky (that you don't get to pay anything) and sometimes you don't.Found an interesting discussion on Ebay Philippines. forums.ebay.ph/thread.jspa?threadID=600000275&start=0

I thought only priority method offers personal delivery. I thought EMS and Standard differ only in arrival date.

Sellers usually allow the winning bidders/buyers to choose a shipping method. I suggest you choose the trackable method sent via a private courier(DHL, Fedex, etc.). This is the safest but may cost twice as the standard method.

yo thanks bruticus! just a question, how will i pay for the custom fees when the item reaches the philippines? will i pay that to the mailman when he delivers the item or do i get a mail then i go to the post office to pay for fees and claim my item? i really really really hope that the package gets to me asap when it reaches the philippines. Customs charges are paid upon claiming of package.

^Which post office? I think SAL and EMS only differ in the arrival of packages. With EMS you will still have to claim the package at the post office and personally deal with Customs.
My only problem is the questionable breakdown of charges.

The fee is more than 1200 PHP. Here is the breakdown of the customs charge: Custom - 255.00 E-Vat - 529.00 Import Processing - 250.00 Doc. Stamp - 250.00 BIR - 15.00 Postal - 35.00 TOTAL - 1334.00 There was no receipt. It was my mother who got the package. She only copied the breakdown from the customs lady's notebook. I just didnt expect the fee would be that high. Any thoughts?

This is strange because it's the first time I'm being charged for a customs fee.

Customs is charging me 1200 PHP for a package worth 75 USD. Package contains 2 DVD and 3 audio CD. Isn't 1200 PHP too much? Approximately 26% of the package's cost? Thanks!

Chicken and Beef Supreme are both good but I prefer Beef. I like the vegetable that comes with it.
