to uber jam and daycotyledon: dudes naman. i was just kidding around when you mentioned the name "snake pliskin". d b eto un role ni kurt russle in some movie... "escape from LA" and another "escape from (something)"? and bulag un isang mata ni kurt russle dun. d movie is not related to the game (i think). but if "Pliskin" is the name of solid then pareho sila ng pangalan from the movie.

HAHAHA gulat naman ako sayo patacat. you know, that's exactly my point! kurt russel's character and snake would have similar names. that's why i was confirming if Solid Snake mentioned the name "Pliskin".
i think it was ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK? i saw it once on HBO

its the other way around, in the ESCAPE FROM L.A., they made a referrence to snake pliskin's "rescue/escape from new york"

@ Uber: Oh! Okay! Thanks for that clarification! ;D @ patacat: That's what we would like to know! ;D Since the name "Snake Pliskin" was already used in the said movie, I dont think the creator of MGS will use it since there are copyrights to the name. Maybe we can research on this again and regroup?

which came first BTW? the movie or the original game? coz it cud be that the movie was the one that copied the name.... OR (that's a big "or") there could be a connection between the two?

I think Escape From New York came earlier than Metal Gear Solid (PS) (mga 1995 ata yun eh. saw the Laser Disc, so it's pretty old school)
pero ung Metal Gear sa MSX, yun ang nauna (80's), then the sequel Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake..
onga pala, if u have an MSX Emulator, check out the "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake" game, Big Boss looks like Sean Connery, Solid looks like Mel Gibson, and Gray Fox looks like the guy from "Platoon" (Tom Berenger)... it's a good game, perhaps one of the best games, even if it's 2D ;D
