favorite war movies * platoon (numero uno!!!)- when i first saw this film, i was in high school then; it got me hooked on vietnam stuff eversince * rambo (first blood part 2) - rambo is one those icons for a teenager of the '80s. mention the 80s and you can't miss this guy with the M-60 machine gun * full metal jacket - i find this film disturbing (stanley kubrick kasi), especially the scene when they hazed their fat and geeky trainee--and what he did to their drill sergeant and to himself later; the identity of the sniper near the film's end was also a surprise * black hawk down - pure realism; because of this film, i finally outgrew my preference for vietnam-era green woodland pattern camouflage and appreciate the current desert camouflage uniform of the US military. * gladiator - astig si russell crowe dito. watching this film made me realize it was far difficult to be a soldier nuong araw. talagang hand-to-hand combat, whether they are battles involvinng armies or duels between gladiators * troy - matindi yung duel ni hector and achilles; you'd also be uncertain whom to cheer for: the rampaging achilles out to avenge his friend or the loyal hector who placed duty above all * braveheart - some scenes were dragging, but the fight scenes are worth watching again and again (may violent streak yata ako ) * saving private ryan - i tell you, the opening scene (normandy landing) gripped me. i guess that's the closes thing you can get in seeing what war really is like; this battle scene is definitely not sanitized. i felt like throwing up afterwards. * the last samurai - i like the way the bushido code played a part in each of this film's character's actions: duty above all. sacrifice. honor, etc. favorite TV mini-series (war/action) * tour of duty - a TV spin off of platoon; medyo pa-cute na ang mga characters and pro-US government, unlike platoon which took flak for being so anti-establishment * band of brothers - improved version of the 70s TV show combat
