I'm always thinking of going to NY alone. maybe see Central park and the museum. and definitely the Ny train station. is there a package tour or something ba? how was the 'Spamalot' show?

'spamalot' was fantastic. you'll be laughing your heart out from beginning to end. although it would've been great to see it with the original cast, i.e., tim curry, david hyde pierce, hank azaria and sara ramirez. but the new cast is also great!
there are a lot of package tours for new york on expedia and other travel sites. but my wife and i like to travel like the locals, i.e. take the public transport. the subway is very convenient, and they have 3, 7, or 24 day passes which will save you lots of money.
if you visit without a tour package, you can look up the city pass (they have something similar in los angeles, too), which will give you access to MoMA (museum of modern art), the empire state building, the guggenheim museum, a new york harbor cruise and the museum of natural history (not sure if the last one is correct - my memory is a bit off today ;D) for one low price.
grand central station is free and open to the public.
and don't forget to visit lady liberty. ;D
hope this helps.

yeah, central park is great. don't forget to visit strawberry fields, where a memorial to john lennon is located.
the metropolitan museum is located in central park east on park avenue and 83rd street, if i'm not mistaken.
the museum of natural history, on the other hand, is on the upper west side, on central park west (broadway and 75th or thereabouts).
if you plan to go to liberty island, make sure to go to battery park early (about 7-8 a.m.) the lines for tickets and the ferry are looooong. it can take you about 2 hours to get to liberty island - more if it's in the peak season.
grand central station is about 2-3 blocks from times square, on east 42nd street.
