That's what happened to me. Used to be a big comics collector, but the difficulty of keeping comics in mint condition ultimately pushed me towards toys. Glad I made the transition tho, even tho toys are a whole lot more expensive.
Anyone else have the same experience?

Hi Ikabod, Thanks for the warm welcome No specific lines, just anything I like really. My latest buys are Voltes V, One Piece, Gundams and Dragon Ball Z Gashapons. Am a fan of McFarlane toys (have been a McFarlane fan since his Spiderman days), but am very picky as there is just too much out there. Mandarin spawn is my fave. The Dragons line is interesting but I have yet to purchase one. Waiting for the sales haha. A little bit of star wars. Also get some game-based figures when I like the game (ie starcraft, warcraft, quake). How about you? Cheers, Dencio

Yeah, I used to collect X-Men comics during the Jim Lee glory days...Then shifted to Image when Jim Lee, McFarlane, Silvestri, Liefeld and others, broke ties with Marvel and formed their own company...Then I eventually got tired of it, but I still keep my old comics in excellent condition with protective bags...Maybe in 10 or 20 years, I'll decide to open those tightly-sealed mylar bags and read my comics again... ^_^

same here bro. but i'm still collecting 2 titles na lang. medyo patapos na rin naman. i used to collect 5-6 titles before when Image Comics rules the charts. now just one title each from DC and Marvel. i collect for reading. not for selling. now, i just wait for the paperback form. mas masarap magbasa nun eh. no ad interruptions.
started to collect toys naman last 2002. DC figures esp Batman. Mattel's Batman figures. some Spawn. some 80's robots with today's make like the SIC Lord of Byston Well: Dunbines. Gundam SEED gashapons. and now, MG & HG Gundam kits.
and now, i have to stop both collections this august. ala-semi retired. have to focus muna sa nalalapit na pagpapa-sakal. este pagpapa-kasal pala. hehehe. ;D

Wow! Those were the good old days!
Jim Lee: X-Men, Wildcats. McFarlane: Amazing Spiderman, Spiderman, Spawn Liefeld: X-Force, Youngblood Silvestri: CyberForce Larsen: Amazing Spiderman, The Savage Dragon Portacio: X-Men, Wet Works
I, too, went from Marvel to Image. Too bad it didn't become as successful as I thought it would be. Only McFarlane has really gone on to bigger things.

Hi no3|jm, The trick is to get the wifey to like toys too. Worked with mine haha! The only drawback is that now it costs much more to keep collecting and there are loads of girley toys around the house. Oh well... Happy Collecting, Dencio

Hey, thats great news no3ljm, you're moving up another step in a ladder called "life"! dencioI used to buy most of my comics from CATS, and I regularly visit their shop to get pre-orders... Remember, when Portacio put an "easter egg" in one of the X-Men issues, in the form of a Philippine flag on Colossus' jacket? Hehehe! Right now, I collect sexy anime characters, mostly females from my favorite anime series...Either gashapons, trading figures or full figures...You can check my collection here... ;D

nope. she doesn't have no clue why boys loves to collect things. hahaha. ;D the same with us, we don't understand them why they are so vain... but we have to agree with their likes. i mean, forced-agree pala. hahaha! ;D btw we both love Astro Boy a lot. and Disney characters ofcourse.
but to be honest, our collections are so expensive kaya one reason din yun why i need to stop... for awhile. kaya nga super ipon na ako nang HG Gundam kits ngayon, so if she went home, ok na. usisain ako at awayin, nandyan na. hehehe. yun lang.

Congratulations no3|jm! How impolite of me, should've said that in my earlier post Mmm Gundam HG. Good value kits, IMHO. Hi LC, I was a Filbar's regular. When I started they were the only ones that were reliable and have stuck with them until I stopped collecting. Hmm don't quite remember that easter egg...have to go through my old X-Men books now! Nice collection btw. I've got a few gashapons myself but not a lot of good looking babes except for Love Hina. Happy Collecting, Dencio

Ah, the good old grade school and high school days. When comics was the spotlight then. I used to collect them. Most were DC and Marvel, of course. The last series that I completed was WildCats and the Infinity Gauntlet series. I used to collect graphic novels but unfortunately dahil sa kaka-pahiram, they went ba-bye na. I decided to collect toys when the remastered star wars trilogy came out. Right now, I have a modest collection of MOTU, TF Cybertron, Convoys, Macross and Kamen Riders. Still looking for good graphic novels. I still want to put up my own library of great comics to come with my toy collection. ;D

Congratulations no3|jm! How impolite of me, should've said that in my earlier post Mmm Gundam HG. Good value kits, IMHO. that's ok bro. no harm done. dami ko tuloy naalala with the subject you started. hehehe. ;D plus matttracker's post pa.
it was 1992. i was college then when i started collecting. nagtitipid sa baong pera para lang makabili nang comics. hehehe. ;D with my cousin's influence on Image. super kwento pa sya on the comics market. na ito ang "IN". i was just browsing his Wizard magazine when i stumbled into this ad by Jim Lee. his WildC.A.T.s! ayun na, dun na nag-start. then, i found out that he was an ex-X-Men penciller. which leads to Silvestri's CyberForce to CyberForce & WildCats' Killer Instinct Crossover (remember, Philippines were mentioned on the first page of WildCats issue 7). that leads me to Portacio's Wetworks & Stone. and to McFarlane's Spawn. i have his first 100 issues. then after Image died a slow death (meron pang Image ha. hehehe. ;D), i turned to DC & Marvel titles. puro special event type of stories lang. no on-goings. until Nightwing & Marvel Knights' Daredevil.
anyone remembers Joe Madureira's Battle Chasers??? it was great... at first. hahaha! ;D
just a reminder mga bros... Jim Lee will be back on WILDCATs relaunch with Grant Morrison this August. me? will just wait for the hardbound collected edition. or the absolute treatment like in HUSH.

That's what happened to me. Used to be a big comics collector, but the difficulty of keeping comics in mint condition ultimately pushed me towards toys. Glad I made the transition tho, even tho toys are a whole lot more expensive. Anyone else have the same experience? i used to collect comics and keep them near mint as possible. would you believe i have like 7 copies of wetworks #1? in my case it did'nt push me to quit comics altogether i just tired of keeping them in 'mint' condition kaya now bara bara na lang ang basa. i read comics for the stories. for toys naman i don't 'collect' as in try to buy every spider-man figure or SOC i just buy what i like. for example i love Robocop that's why i'll be buyinng the Hot toys release. ;D yun lang. hindi na yung Neca or Mcfarlane eds.

Hi mattracker, That library idea sounds good. Let me know when it's open so I can visit Hi Checkmate, I suggest you look at the Kotobukiya Robocop Trilogy series. Nice but not too expensive. Figures are about 3 inches tall. search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=kotobukiya+robocop (cut and paste the entire link to a browser) Happy Collecting, Dencio
