Man, when I heard and saw the news I felt a lil shock.... my fave guy in animal planet's gone. What with all his antics of endangering his life for the benefit of sharing and learning the ins and outs of the reptile species. To the dude who always makes me awe... may you RIP.

Such passion. I believe majority of my "wildlife concerns" came from him after watching his show and it shocks me to know he passed away while doing what he likes to do most. He's one of my idols and he's also one of those guys whom I really wanted to meet in person.

I've read that a kill from a stingray is very rare, he was only the 3rd to be killed by a stingray in Australian waters. The Bull Stingray that killed him according to experts say that it's only a one-in-a-million chance.
The major factor that lead to Steve's death was that he got stung and his heart got punctured.
What saddens me is that he made a big influence on me and on my view on wildlife.
A big tragedy for Australia and millions of his fans.
Those who rarely watch CH might think he's a wacko who shows on TV to show he can wrestle with crocs, but everything he does in his shows are for his message of wildlife conservation. He's a really great guy.

I was also shocked to hear of his sudden death. One good thing though is he died doing what he loved. May he rest in peace.

I think what's pretty sad is that his death was preventable, and he has a family. He shouldn't have taken too many unnecessary risks, worse when he was holding his baby while feeding a croc. Stingrays are generally harmless, so he must have did something that caused his death.

The thing that caused his death was a punctured heart, probably when he was diving the ray got startled and pierced him with the barb. You're right, stingrays rarely kill but a punctured heart+poison immediately ended Steve's life. Feeding the croc near his son was one controversial issue with Steve Irwin, but he justified that he knew what he's doing. I had to believe that Steve didn't take too many risks, he's been handling crocs since he was a boy and he obviously know what he's doing. After watching several episodes of Crocodile Hunter, I know that he knows it if a Croc would snap or just stay. Even a day after the shocking news I'm still quite depressed with the loss of one of my big idols. He's not just my idol coz he can wrestle with crocs and handle snakes and knows what species of animal is this and that, but mainly because by watching him I developed my concern for wildlife to the next level. It's really saddening because this person really touched my life and view for nature in such great magnitude. I even wrote to Ireport in CNN a testimonial on what I have to say about my idol.
