I need tips on how to maintain the sheen and shine of chrome parts on my chogokins, hope you can give me pointers on how to clean them, and info on products i can use to maintain and protect the chrome parts. I notice recently, especially on rainy days, fog on chrome parts accumulate rapidly. Making me wipe and buff them almost every 1 or 2 days (I display my chogokins on aluminum and glass showcase). Hope you can give me tips on this one, tnx in advance.

;D good thing SOCs nowadays have metal parts that are chromed, instead of chromed plastic. I think the chrome lustre is lost through the oxidizing process, like rust. Technically, you can seal it off from moisture/ humidity such as in a case, and put drying agent like baking soda or those thingys they put in with new shoes. Or, there is a also a solution that you can dip chromed metal into to make it shine - like a chemical wash. The advantage is you don't have to rub the chrome. I forget what it's called.

Use gloves when handling chrome toys. Sweat from one's fingertips will eat away at chrome even if it's returned to the box and kept away from sunlight Hansguard cotton wool work gloves are being sold at ACE hardware. I recommend using these. Use 3M cd wipe cloth(120 Pesos also at Ace) to clean the chrome. I tried using other cloths to clean my Combattler's Twin lancers... scratches galore soon followed.. Moisture is also a big no-no, Dehumidifiers being sold at ACE(heh, I should be getting paid for plugs like this for 65 Pesos will take care of that. Lastly heat will also tarnish chrome and crack paint. I recommend spotlights be OUTSIDE the display case, on ceiling rafters preferably(kinda like paintings in Museums). If you can put in a shot glass of water(see jewelry display shops.. there's always a shotglass full of water in every display that has a spotlight on), that helps a lot. Gold

to gold, tnx tnx tnx for your recommendations. more power to you bro. here's what happen: lately madalas mag fog un chrome nun soc ko, i thought it was due to our rainy weather these last few days. kala ko normal fog lang na madali naman i wipe with soft cloth. pero madalas sya mag fog, and more than usual ( kaya i started this thread, to seek advice from the experts). to my dissapointment, last i checked my chogokins, dumikit talaga un fog sa chrome, di kuna maalis (grabe un sa gaiking ko). this time, white-ish fog sya. i thought real hard why it happened, anu nagbago sa environment nila? kase usually madali lang i polish un fog by rubbing soft cloth naman. i was so very depressed (felt so bad sa gaiking ko i found out recently, minsan nilipat ko un mga chogokins ko. nilinis ko un display cabinet nila with cloth, heavily soaked with water and "tide", para super clean sbi ko. after drying out the cabinet i arranged back my chogokins sa said cabinet, after 2 weeks my problems started. i am very sure now that what tarnish the chrome of my chogokins is ung "tide" solution na ginamit ko. ser JP suggested to use na metal polish dun sa gaiking, which i did. the luster came back, pero di na perfect un chrome. lesson learned: i suggest never to use any detergent in cleaning ur display cabinets . my gaiking paid the price for my ignorance . now i even go to the extreme by puting charcoal inside my display cabinet (to suck the bad air . seems it helps naman, wala pa ako nakikita fog sa chrome nila. tnx to all who gave their recommendations to my thread, more power to you all (especialy to ser JP and ser gold).

No problem Mannyd, although I'm not entirely sure if metal polish was the right thing for it. Maybe a damp 3M CD wipe cloth would've worked since if the problem was Tide(or to be more accurate, the vapors from the Tide solution). Someone once told me that Singer machine oil works daw for cleaning chrome, I've never tried it before so I don't really know... anyone feeling gutsy? oh, and the Singer machine oil trick only works on chromed metal. Chromed plastics such as weapons and swords might not work. Gold

BTW, MannyD, just curious, are your shelves wood or glass?
I ask because if it's wood it takes longer to dry out..

to gold, i've tried it all na ser gold, matindi talaga kapit nun fog. soft cloth dampen with water, lacquer thinner sa johnson buds, car wax, and even rubbing compound (gently lang). un lang talaga metal polish (glo) nagpa balik sa luster nun chrome. 2 guys din naman nag recommend ser ng metal polish, before ko ginamit, and very minimal lang un pag apply ko nun glo. it's good enough, di man sya nagbalik sa pagka perfect chrome, it's good enough na. anyways, i'm using na un ni recommed mo items. 3M cleaning cloth (69.95 pesos, it says 'lint and scratch free') to use when wiping the chrome. and un dehumidifier (109.75 pesos) which removes moisture and molds sa display cabinet (and it also deodorizes and emits fragrant scent daw . pero i'm still looking for na mas soft na gloves, parang magaspang pa din sa feel ko un hannsguard cotton gloves ser gold. madame din nag recommend un mga gloves na pang ROTC. cguro i'll try them din. tnx talaga ser gold sa mga tips mo, more power to you. tnx tnx tnx

to gold, ser aluminum and glass display cabinet un lalagyan ng mga chogokins ko. I see, Thanks for the warnings MAnnyD, ROTC gloves work too but since the fabric is smoother, be sure you always have a firm grim otherwise the toy tends to slip out of your grasp more and will plunge to its doom on the floor. to gold, un din nga warning nun gumagamit ng mga rotc gloves, madulas lang sila. pero currently i've been using na lang muna un smallest t-shirts ng 4 month old kid ko, i just simply cover my hands with them pag hinahawakan ko un mga soc. effective naman . ser gold un pala 3M wipe cloth medyo harsh pa din sa feel ko, bka ma scratch un paint nun die cast. mas smooth pa din sa tingin ko un flannel cloth (pranela, 12 pesos lang each sa mga street vendors .

update: as of now, flannel cloth still works best for me. i just wrap the chogokins with flannel when handling and buffing them. still no visible scratches. just wash the flannel cloth every now and then, with water only, NO tide please . and the dehumidifiers and charcoal inside my display case are probably a good combination, no visible fog on my chromes since i've used them. and a good friend pala reminded me, use glo (if ever) sparingly, bka daw mag fade un chrome. cguro last resort na lang sya, pag grabe na un tarnish. that's all for now, more power to you all .
