Thanks to Chen of Robot Japan for this, the next Super Robot to get a remake will be Go Nagai's Jeeg. More here: altjapan.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/01/haniwa_genjin_z.html "It will be a direct sequel to the original Anime, set 50 years after the series." Looks like it will be done by the guys who did the Shin Getter Animes, too.  According to Wikipedia, the new series will begin airing on April 5, 2007 on the Wowwow channel It looks like 2007 will be a year for Super Robots, so far the list for new Super Robot Animes to look forward to are: -Dancougar Nova -Reideen -Genesis of Aquarion sequel(Tentatively titled "Wings of Betrayal") -Jeeg -new Evangelion Gold |

Well, after 13 episodes Jeeg has finally concluded. Set in an alternate reality from the original 70's series (in the original, Prof. Shiba was murdered prior to the appearance of Jeeg, he's alive and well here.). The new Jeeg is now piloted via a morphing motorcycle instead of the pilot being a morphing cyborg like in the original. Spoiler images New Jeeg gets various upgrades throughout the OVA, quite similar to Grendizer actually. In order of appearance. Jeeg Bazooka. Pretty huge.   Marine Parts  .. Jeeg transforms into a "human torpedo" of sorts when he's in the water.  Mach Drill (a weapon from the original series)  Sky Parts   Jeeg transforms into a jet-like form for greater speeds.  Earth Parts   After Merging with Baruba, the great white tiger (similar to how original Jeeg merges with his horse)  They were able to save the original Jeeg from his "stasis" state (from his final battle with the Yamatai Kingdom)  Near the final battle New Jeeg was corrupted by an evil entity and became this demon thing.  After the original Jeeg gave up his Bronze bell (an ancient artifact which gives Jeeg his powers), it merged with new Jeeg and Baruba the white tiger to awaken the possessed new Jeeg, which gave birth to... KotetsuShin Jeeg!!!    Overall, the story isn't that good. I don't know if it's just me but somehow it lacks the appeal of the newer Getter and Mazinkaiser OVAs. The action isn't bad but I wouldn't put it pass mediocre. The soundtrack isn't that hot either. There are rumors that the SOC line will bring out a toy based on New Jeeg (unofficial blueprints have popped up on the net) Time will tell. Gold |
