I just got a new shipment of Starscream, so now I can open one up to add to my collection. I'll make a simple review on the newest SUPREME class of the Transformers Cybertron toyline - Supreme King Starscream! This will be my first Cybetron toy.
PACKAGING
The toy's packaging is in the new Cybertron style packaging which reminds me somewhat of the older TF Armada Packaging with a "bulge" on the top. I still perfer the solid carton square Takara boxes.
DIMENSIONS:
King Starscream weighed a massive 1.2 kilograms and stands 14 inches tall. Not as huge and heavy as Unicron or Omega Supreme but still big!
PAPERWORKS:
King Starscream comes with a manual and a catalogue. The catalogue has the Spedia story on the front and photos of the other Transformers at the back with Starscream marked as a "Supreme class", which Optimus and Megatron as "leader class".
ACCESORIES:
King Starscream comes with 1 crown, 2 keys (reminds me of minicons to unlock abilities), 1 gun, 1 missile, 1 sword.
ELECTRONICS:
The electronics are just 4 blinking turrets beside Starscream's head with a laser beam firing sound. Also when you turn Starscream's arms to horizontal position, you'll hear a transforming sound.
On the left and ride side King Starscream's Electronics are powered by 2 AAA batteries. message from Hasbro - "sorry kids, we are a poor compnay, so batteries are not included.."
FIGURE:
The metallic paint and details of this figure is TOP NOTCH! Hasbro is starting to follow Takara in terms of quality. The metallic paint especially on the shoulder gives a somewhat translucent effect, at first i even though the shoulders has translucent dark red plastic parts. The decepticon logos are also painted exceptionally well.
GIMIKS:
With a plug in of the key, a long translucent sword swings out from underneat of Starscream's right arm. The other arm reveals a laser weapon.
The 2 plastic clips holding the cannon on the right arm is too small. When the arms are in the vertical position, inserting the planet key will activate the gimik and let the cannon pop out, but the spring mechanism is too strong the the cannon will dislodge from the clips. A minor problem which can be solved by reattaching the cannon.
For some reason, the left and right wing of starscream can detach from the main body as seen at the photo below. There isn't any documented information about this in the manual, maybe some new gimik by Hasbro to let it combine with other figures?
DECEPTICONS.. AS YOUR NEW LEADER...I WILL TURN CYBETRON INTO A THEME PARK!!

ARTICULATION:
The figure has 15 points of articulation. The most impressive articulation is the shoulder articulation which will the arms move 15 degress outwards to let the figure do a chest out macho pose.
TRANSFORMATION:
Pretty simple and easy - The head and shoulder part will fold up 45 degrees. Pull the shoulders 10 degrees outwards. The toes will fold downward, the legs turned sideways and folds upward into the main body.
I wish you can open the cockpit of Starscream! It would be cool to put some mini-con figures as pilots. But im sure Hasbro would not agree to that ;D
NOTE TO GARVY: Imagine if you can put some Diaclone drivers inside? Wouldn't that be COOL!!!!
STORAGE:
The manual list that you can put the crown to the lowered hidden head of Starscream and put the toy back in storage. There is a hidden slot on the rear for the Planet keys but there is only storage room for one key! The toy comes with 2 planet keys!
OTHER GIMIKS:
The item does not come with tech spec cards anymore instead all details are printed on the side of the box. The back of the keys comes with a "code" which you can use on Transformers.com website.
PROS:
- Huge toy
- tight joints
- Easy to play and pose
- Superb metallic paint job
- Superb articulation
- The decepticon crown
- Nice gimiks
- Starscream in Supreme size!!
- Very nice macho design
CONS:
- Poor manual, some undocumented features and gimiks
- The minor left arm cannon dislodging problem
- No batteries? ;D
- Planet key compartment only for 1 planet key?
- No tech spec card, just printed on box
- Gimiks a bit few compared to Omega Supreme and Unicron
RATING and FINAL WORDS:
PACKAGING: 4/5
PAPERWORKS: 3/5
ACCESORIES: 4/5
DETAIL: 5/5
TRANSFORMATION: 4/5
ARTICULATION: 4/5
GIMIKS: 3/5
After an hour of play, I really enjoyed this figure. A simple Starscream toy with superb details and articulation. I do wish Hasbro added a few more gimiks like maybe opening compartments and a hand rifle. A ball jointed neck or lights up Unicron eye style would also be a nice addition. The Decepticon crown is a double thumbs up to Hasbro! I hope HasTak will continue to release more toys in the figure with the same solid design, articulation and superb paint detail as King Starscream in the future.
Thanks
