Okay I admit it. I'm a case of foot in mouth.
I had my reservation with the Binaltech series due to (well partly the cost but mostly with the d@mn paint chipping)
Finally, I purchased myself a japanese version of the Alternator series.
KISS Convoy
by Tomy Takara
Box: Very feminine kawaii................,the shape reminded me of Superlink Grand Convoy's trailer. It is also magnetized to hide a picture of Merissa taking off her tank top( ;D heh.....the selling point of the item)
Contents: Melissa (Marissa? Fairborne) figure, Biocard, instruction manual, extra torso and arms, CD with radio program , surf board/sword (PINK!), Viper engine "blaster"
Description:
Merissa: she is well sculpted, even better than most gasha out there. Wearing a black tank top, white bikinis, a crucifix and a Jolly Roger insignia ( some references can be read in Kanji of the EDC(Earth Defence Command))
You can change her pose to either standing or sitting, driving or leaning. Her cheeks are blushing pink to augment her blonde hair and blue eyes.
Heyyyyyyyyyy wait a minute, this is supposed to be a critique of the Dodge Pick-up model of Convoy
The reason why I bought the figure was for the Convoy right? I've already seen the US version and I was disappointed. Heck the US instruction mistransformed him blah, blah, blah.
But all that changed when I saw the solicitation in the latest Hobby magazine.
Basically his transform mode is reminicent of "Laser Convoy" with the oversized shoulders. We already know of the "plywood flat chest of his' ;D but what caught my attention is the plastic/color apps. It almost fooled me into thinking it was "Binaltech". I sort of swore off the series due to the "chipping" issue so it is a 50/50 for those who'll miss the heavy diecast feel or the light plastic feel.
The difference between the US version are his arms/shoulders. The KISS version has chrome patterned simulated engine and blue instead of red. Great face sculpt reminding me of God Ginrai.
Pet peeves is that you can't extend his thigh making him look like a midget. His hip guard too simulates his G1 version's "briefs".
Now.............to his "sword".............its..............PINK for heaven's sake! For those who played "Chrono Cross", the hero Serge had a similar double bladed weapon..........except its PINK!
I won't delve into buy or not buy, Alternator or Binaltech...........but as the saying goes, you'll indeed judge the book by its cover, and knowing how the japanese excel in "repacking" stuff, KISS Convoy comes out as one of the best examples.
Enjoy!
