I was able to come across this Seacons boxed set. Considering how much Piranacon (and it's recolor, God Neptune) goes for in ebay, I took the bait and grabbed the chance to buy this set.
The box is in a battered condition, the toys have some parts missing and some pegs are close to breaking. Seawing has his extra connection point broken off. The chrome is fading and the stickers are...in bad shape.
Despite the points above, all the pieces still transform quite tightly (though a screw needed to be tighted in Overbites' elbow). In fact, some are so tight that I was afraid I might create a white stress mark on the plastic. Despite the broken connector on Seawing, Piranacon can still be assembled and stand as solid as any G1 combiner.
Please bear with me since the pics were taken using a phone cam so they're not as sharp as digicam pics.
Presenting Piranacon: Seacons boxed set. Vintage 1988:
Front box pic:
As can be seen in box pic, there are only 5 Seacons in this boxed set as opposed to the 6 Seacons! I thought that the seller was selling an incomplete set but apparently, the boxed set only came with 5 Seacons.
Here is the box in scale with a re-issue Soundwave and a Sigma 6 Cobra Commander package:
As you can see, the box is quite huge!
Here is a detail off the front of the box:
It's the boxed set version of Piranacon utilizing 5 Seacon members.
Here is the pic of the back of the box:
As with other G1 toys, the TechSpecs are printed at the back of the box. Why are there 6 TechSpecs when I said that there were only 5 Seacons? The 6th is for Piranacon.
Here is a little more detail off the back of the box:
Like what I said: 5 Seacons in this boxed set.
Once the box is openned, this is how the toys are laid out:
This is really old school with its styrofoam packaging!
Out of the box, here are the Seacons:
Skalor:
He becomes.....ummm....some kind of fish....
I made him an arm of Piranacon:
Seawing:
Note the empty cavity on his chest where the broken peg belongs to.
Seawing becomes....a.....hmm....winged sea creature:
Next is Overbite:
As you can see, his right forearm is sagging down -- I need to tighted the elbow screw.
Overbite becomes a....shark....with legs...
I made Overbite and Seawing the legs of Piranacon.
Seawing has no choice since his connector to become the arm was broken off.
The last of the limbs is Tentakil:
Tentakil transforms into a.....tentacled sea creature....
I made him replace Seawing as the other arm of Piranacon:
The big boss of the gang is Snaptrap:
Snaptrap transforms into....some sort of turtle with cannons at his back....
Let's volt together!!!
The shoulder connection is a bit too loose for my taste but the leg connectors are nice and solid.
Piranacon is a lot shorter than I expected:
As you can see, he's shorter than Sixshot.
Here he is now parked in my shelf:
Piranacon is your basic combiner. The only difference is his fists have the "connector" that would allow a 6th member to become Piranacon's gun.
It's a must-buy if you find one! Right now it's quite rare to the point that there still isn't a bootleg available out there!
