I took advantage of the recent weekend sale of TK to get myself a Cybertron Leader Class Galvatron. I'm not sure how long this has been on the shelves since it's only recently that I got myself into TF's. As of the time of this writing, a Leader Class TF would cost P3k at the malls.
Galvatron is a repaint of the Cybertron series' Megatron. It turns out to be one repaint for the better! Done in black, silver, gray with orange to accent it, this figure screams more 'Megatron' than it does Galvatron.
Galvatron transforms into a car that for lack of descriptive words can only be described as the Batmobile:
The cyberplanet key goes to a slot just behind the cockpit and it activates a spring that makes the boosters at the back go up and cause a sound that's akin to a motor starting....or something like that. The 2 missiles at the middle part of the booster are spring-loaded. When pressed deep enough, the launching button would also trigger a "firing" sound and an LED light flashing between the missile launcher.
Flip back the fender and lock it at the rear wheels and the Batmobile becomes the Batplane hehehe.
Either mode it big, huge and bulky! Both modes are about a foot long.
In robot mode, Galvatron is one of the more articulated TF's out there. He's got knees, elbows, hips, shoulders, wrists, turning biceps, turning thighs and a head that can turn left-right. Articulation would have been 'perfect' except that his design prevents practical use of his turning ratchet waist. His feet either lack ratchet joints to lock his ankles or he needs longer heel support (ala Supreme Starscream).
His weapons are kept in his fenders. On the right fender, the cyberplanet key opens the compartment that keeps his gun.
The left fender has the spiky Unicron Power Claws:
What's unique to Galvatron is he's one of the few TF's I've encountered that have double-jointed elbows! Come to think of it, I don't quite remember any other toy outside Gundams that have those double-elbow joints.
Balancing Galvatron is quite tricky because of 1) the design of his feet/heels and 2) the fenders which swing to his back make him back-heavy.
The first time I got him off the box I thought that he had a serious design flaw that he couldn't stand up in robot mode! After openning up one of the feet (3 screw-construction) I found out that to balance him, you should move ankles up 1 click (toes pointing upward) so that his feet would lock in the first ratchet of the joint. After that, it's just a matter of positioning the knees and hips to the center of gravity.
Galvatron is one toy I would highly recommend!
The only thing that could hold you back from buying him is his prohibitive cost of P3k! If you find him on sale, don't hesitate to get him!
Just a few notes on Galvatron:
If you're just after the mold and TF "experience" then the GD-01 Megatron would be the most economical at P2.2k only. The Galvatron I got is the Leader Class Galvatron in the white packaging. It even says "Giant Planet Leader Class" on the box. Cost is P3k in TK. Cybertron Megatron in the same white-box packaging suprisingly costs more than P3k! The high-end of all this is the GD-14 Galvatron which can go as high as P3.8k. I'm not sure how the GD-14 differs from Hasbro's Galvatron.
