Originally released back in 1989, popularly known as DBOZ-17 Gilvader TOMY re-issued it again under Genesis Zoids Line with new designation: GZ-018 Gil Dragon.
Gilvader were amongst the sought after & consider as one of the holy grails along with RPZ-24 King Gojulas & DPZ-23 Gungyalado for most Zoids collector.
I pre-ordered GZ-018 Gil Dragon in HLJ as soon as they post it but cancelled the order a month ago when they start pulling out some Genesis Zoids such as GZ-016 Redler, Baratz Vol.2 & Quick Kits products in their listing.
As always Amenbo is a better aletrnative & when I saw it on pre-order status I placed my order along with GZ-017 Decalto Dragon & Power up Parts A, B & C.
Now on with the review, first the molds:
The white plastic looks regal. It has a pearlescent finish which looks fantastic. The three translucent pieces are deep blue. The gold parts am happy to say is crisp & of good quality unlike the gold lumpy/soft parts of GZ-010 Murasame Liger.
It comes with lighting kit that runs with 2x AA Type battery w/c consists of three blue flashing units like Christmas light - 1 in the head, 1 in each wing. Then the heart of the kit, the motor runs by 1x AA Type battery.
Both the original and new horns are included. The original ones are on the sprue, and the new ones are loose in a bag with the 4x gears, 2x springs, 2 types of caps and sticker sheet. The sticker differs from the usual set we get from other Zoids kits. It's some sort of Zoid Glyphs, need to watch the Anime maybe there’s some sense on it. Also, when building the GZ-018 Gil Dragon pay attention on the manual as it clearly shows where to place the stickers.
Box Front/Back
The box is HUGE, same width & length as TRU Gojulas MKII but double it's height.
The built model: GZ-018 Gil Dragon. For an Old School Zoids, Design and Engineering is remarkeable. It walks in four, lower jaw opens, flap it’s wings, all four razor saw rotates, tail moves up and down.
Using DBOZ-17 Gilvader's Horn
Size comparison with TRU Gojulas MK-II
The only thing I gripe is that the female plug on the lighting kit screaming for GRADE UP UNIT.
Nevertheless, kudos to TOMY for re-issuing this magnificent kit
Cheers to everyone ;D
