bro, are you referring to the white part of the shield or the redpink part area?
what i do with panel lines lately is use Gundam Marker GM20 and rub the excess with cotton buds. but i do rub it gently, because if i rub it hard, the whole panel line erases. hehehe. ;D remember, this specific marker is water-based. the beauty of this water-based marker is you can redo it everytime once you're not happy with the panel lines.

The redpink area. @_@
I should have made it clearer. >_<
Can vents also be done with the marker?

ahhh. the redpink area. that's easier compare to the panel detail on the white area of the shield. the circled panel detail. hehehe. ;D
nweiz, with the panel line on the redpink area, i'll do what i posted on my last post. just put some details on the groove, not minding the excess and rub it lightly later with cotton buds to erase the excess.
for tutorials on that method, you can check vic01's post on this thread. click HERE.
and yes, you can use the marker for the vents. i used that on my WIP: HGUC Guncannon.
oppsss sorry about that. wrong angle. but i did use the marker on the backpack's vents. i'll take some photos once i finished this kit.

Question: What do you do if you spray too close to the kit when doing topcoat therefore producing air bubbles or a sort of white cast on the surface of the kit? Do you simply dunk it in thinner & start over? TIA!

hey guys i'm a newbie, i need your help on this one please....
I have an sd red astray that's been sitting on my desk for awhile now, and it's been panel lined with gundam markers. so after getting over my laziness i decided to spray it on with tamiya shiny clear coat, i was expecting it would make my red astray look even better but i was wrong....
the panel lines that i did a long time ago started bleeding off after i spayed the clear coat shine on it. how did that happened? does tamiya shiny clear coat hates gundam markers? now, it totally messed up my model!! can you please tell me what i should do next time to avoid this?
thanks in advance. please help a newbie out....

I believe the top coat is lacquer based? It will eat practically anything - enamel, acrylic and etc.
You could wash it off using thinner shower but I've never done it myself so can't comment for sure...
Good luck mate!

thanks dj898!
yes it is lacquer based. all of the panel lines are now messed up....good thing this kit is only for testing purposes for me to learn from. but i wonder why this glossy clear coat hates gundam markers....is there a better option to use other than tamiya so that it won't mess up the panel lines?

From what I know Tamiya clear coat is Acrylic based cause tamiya doesn't have a line of laquer paints. Now based on what you said my take on your problem is that you oversprayed your kit with the gloss coat OR you sprayed it near thus the overspraying eheheh. Now gloss coats will eat any paint that it touches IF you oversprayed your kit with it. Now for gundam markered kit you can just spray it with yes Tamiya Clear coat, Mr Color, Mr Super Clear or Mr Topcoat. But if your kit is painted with laquer based paints then the top coat should also be laquer based while if your kit is painted with acrylic based paints then it should be coated with acrylic based topcoats now for enamel paints you could also use laquer based coats. JUST REMEMBER: DO NOT OVER SPRAY and DO NOT SPRAY TOO CLOSE

thanks kangkong, that was my first time using clearcoat spray. i guess i was kinda close when i was spraying but i don't think i oversprayed it coz i just did about 3-4 rounds from what i can remember, is that too much for an sd kit? i also got some orange peel surfaces. do you spray the whole model or take it apart and spray it section by section? could you please share a few tips on the proper way to spray clear coats? salamat!

Hi zero,
3-4 rounds of close range spraying will result in overspraying and thus will also result in bubbling or orange peeling. What you can do is to spray a feet away from the kit or maybe a half feet away and the manner of sprayung should be from side to side. Let's you started from the left side then you should end on the right side of the kit. For SD kits I spray clear coats when the kit is fully painted and assembled while on 1/144 or MGs or 1/100s I spray them part by part not piece per piece. Part by part means I fit the whole legs then spray it with top coat.
Remember when applying top coats or paints let the first coat dry first before applying another round.
Hope that helps
