Just last week, my PS2 failed to read all of my games except for the Capcom Vs. SNK 2 game. It seems that it has finally broke down after almost 4 years of playing. I brought it to a nearby computer repair shop (Circuit City), had some repairs, but to no avail except that the Capcom Vs. SNK 2 game read even better, but still the other games didn't played, even the most recent ones I get. It's DEAD. Or is it really dead?
I myself am not yet ready to take this as an avid video gamer. I think there's plenty much to do with a PS2, and with the next-gen consoles' prices, I have no option but to have a new PS2. And then there was my next option.
The same shop (Circuit City) has a promo of swap of consoles for new ones. You only need to bring the unit itself, even working or non-working, and have them swapped for a fee, for a brand new one of your choice. Obviously PS2 is still my choice and I have to add a fee and have it swapped for the slim version. The promo lasts until June 30, and I believe I can make the fee before that promo ends.
I believe my PS2 served me very well for almost 4 years (I bought it July 4, 2003) and I think I cannot blame it, after all all things have an end. But in the end, lies a new beginning. In a few weeks I'll be having a PS2 Slim version and I'm so excited. I walked out of Circuit City not with a frowning face but with a big grin on my heart. I believe there's still plenty of games for me to play and pending games to finish, and with all the enjoyment a PS2 brings, I think it's enough reason for me to get a new one!
Everyone might be having some comments about me not getting a next-gen console instead, but it's only what I can afford, so every piece of entertainment it gives me is very worth it.
