Prepare for some massive laitan, okrayan at ihanda ang Racumin at Dora because you'll need it...
*AHEM!*
Name: King Mickey
Wave: Kingdom Hearts Play Arts volume 1
Company: Square-Enix, Kotobukiya
Size: 140mm
Points of Articulation: 12
SRP: $24
The Four Basic Views
Detail and Painting
Since the figure himself is comprised with only five colors (black ,white, flesh, silver and a little red for the tongue), he should get a perfect paint job but that is not the case, I'm afraid.
The lining of his big and wide-open mouth had some blotches and dodges.
(...and he looks kind of like *excuse me* a dork when facing a full frontal shot.)
But despite the close-to-perfect paint job, King Mickey is sculpted accurately in a way that Disney would not reject the sculpt...but according to Square-Enix in Tomopop (can't fetch the link), it took them quite long to have the Mickey sculpt approved. Man, Disney is that strict?! 0_0;
Oh and interestingly, "Axel-Mickey's" outfit has those small hidden Mickey buttons to differentiate his outfit from a usual Organization XIII member.
Articulation
King Mickey is one character that you would not expect to make it into the Play Arts line considering that his role is much smaller than Donald and Goofy; and that he'd have little articulation possible.
...but Square-Enix is hard-headed and they got away with it again years after they released Kairi in a really skimpy seifuku.
Articulation-wise, King Mickey only sports 12 points of articulation and the lower half of his body is completely restricted by his cloak so tip-toe poses isn't completely possible but just a 360-degree turn of his feet. So with that, only the upper half can be really played with.
Argh, what's the name of this line again? PLAY ARTS. NOT Static Arts.[/b][/color] Okay, thank you. <_<
Accessories and Gimmicks
King Mickey doesn't include a base because he can balance by 100% because of his big big feet.
...and since when did a Kingdom Hearts figure included a base anyway?
Future releases Olympus Cloud and Sephiroth? Thank god, finally! >_<;
Lack of unnecessary base aside, let's look at the Keyblade which King Mickey has:
A "Darkside" repaint of the repetitive Kingdom Key.
Since King Mickey once made use of the Star Seeker Keyblade, I wish it could have also been included. But despite the uber repetition of the same Kingdom Key (repainted in this case), admit it or not, it adds color to the EMOuse.
Other than his Kingdom Key ~ Darkside ~, King Mickey comes with alternate pair of closed fist hands to box those that are criticizing his action figure debut (just like this guy here *points to self*) but like Riku and Sora, interchanging the hand parts is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.
So yeah, I'm fine with his default set of open hands. The Right hand has a peg for holding the Kingdom Key ~ Darkside ~ or other keyblades and applicable items:
Sea Salt Ice Cream
and
A cute way of expressing "Cannibalism"
What could be done for Mickey to deserve a 10?
I'm giving this King Mickey figure a 7/10 score. Why, you might ask?
We can't expect much articulation from a mouse of small statue and seemingly restrictive clothing so I crossed out the bit about the articulation in giving him a seven. Otherwise I just gave this figure a five.
BUT
There are things which Square-Enix SHOULD HAVE done to make King Mickey the most awesome Play Arts figure yet despite the articulation almost-bupkis:
- Hood should have been wearable by the King.
- Rat tail should have been made of a bendable wire so that it can be poseable.
- JAW SHOULD HAVE A JOINT (note: Red XIII from FFVII) because the King looks like a *let me say it again* DORK when his mouth is opened.
So yeah, in conclusion:
I'll recommend King Mickey to Mickey Mouse and Kingdom Hearts completists.
<_<
