Attention SOC and TF Collectors ~ a warning..

Just wanted to give folks a headsup about battery leaks in the following toys. If you have these items, remember that they have electronics inside that come with batteries and the batteries will expire and corrode over time. I recently discovered my TF Energon Galvatron had flat type batteries in his cannon and the batteries had started to produce salt. So I decided it's high time to remove all batteries from my collections.

I'm not sure but I bet there are more figures that have electronics. I know it sucks especially if you're into MISB or MOC collecting (no way to remove the Matrix casing from Prime/Magnus without cutting him loose from the tray) but once the batteries start producing corrosive compounds, kiss the internal electronics goodbye.



So far the worst casualty on my list would be the Gx24 original Tetsujin. The batteries had already begun to leak and the outer layer had become moist and the metal pins connecting to the batteries had already begun to rust into a bluish tinge. Grr... sure hope the electronics still work.



The most irritating would be the packaging for SDCC Masters of the Universe King Greyskull and SDCC DC Superheroes Man-Bat from Mattel. There's just no way to get to the battery panel without tearing the box packaing to shreds. Mattel should've done it with a way to get the the battery panel.. Tsk..

Hi Gold.I have a query.For MP-05 & MP-08 , in order for the electronic to work ,you need to remove a piece of clear plastic paper that are slotted .Can't that protect them from corrosion by the battery?

Thanks for the warning sir. It also applies to ANY devices that use batteries.

It wont protect the battery from leaking. It just prevents the battery from discharging. Batteries discharge after sometime even when not in use if you dont remove them from the device you're using.

Yep, that's true, the batteries expire regardless of the insert and thus, also leaks after time.

The problem lies with the "default" batteries already installed in the toys with electronics. Those are the ones that need removal

TFC jetfire has 3 batteries on it's tail..for better, just find the part of the toy that has some button/switch since those parts are the most location where the battery is near and there will always be a notable screw near it (very noticable to toys that have removable/interchanging parts)

engine souls obviously have batteries but they're easy to remove.

be observative though...some screws aren't the same + or -..some have triangular screwhead(mostly kiddie meal toys) which is a pain to remove and some have the star/* type..

Socman,

1. open the chest to expose the Matrix
2. pull out the front wheels (Prime's torso sides),
3. open Prime's "backpack"
4. flip down the driver's seat
5. use a small screw driver to try and poke out the peg holding the Matrix chamber in place (requires some force)
6. after extracting the matrix chamber unscrew the battery panel cover and remove the batteries.

7. to return the matrix chamber, push the peg down against the slot (again, force will be required).
