I think this is the official news that was posted:
Major toy makers Takara, Tomy agree to merge
Major toy makers Takara Co. and Tomy Co. have basically agreed to merge in a bid to survive tough market conditions due to the declining birthrate, sources close to the two firms said.
The move follows the announcement that another toy maker, Bandai Co., will join hands with large video game software firm Namco Co.
The mergers will lead to a major shuffle of the toy industry into two big rival organizations.
Despite several earlier hit products such as its "Rika-chan dolls," Takara's recent products have flopped. The firm is expected to run deeply into the red on a consolidated basis when it settles its fiscal 2005 accounts.
At the end of last month, leading video game company Konami Corp. sold its 22.2 percent stake in Takara to Index Corp., a mobile phone communications service provider. As a major shareholder, Index had considered loaning employees to Takara as board members in a bid to beef up its operations.
Tomy has recently increased its sales by putting out animation character-related goods after running at a loss in fiscal 2002 and 2003. The company had been in the black up to around 2000 on the strength of its Pocket Monster-related toys and was desperately attempting to make itself more profitable.
The new entity will take advantage of both Takara and Tomy products that will retain their individual identities to increase competitiveness.
In fiscal 2004, Takara's sales came to 107.2 billion yen and Tomy's sales amounted to 82.5 billion yen, both on a consolidated basis, while the figure for Bandai over the same period totaled 263.1 billion yen. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, May 12, 2005)
