Is tamiya's acrylic X-16 purple an ok approximation of it from the anime's color?

Well probably... It depends on your taste preference. Actually tamiya's purple is quite good but some reactions on this colorline, like its too bright or too glossy. But I never used tamiya before or even saw that color preference. Well probably you can use it if your content with it. Since its your own customization. Actually some customizers didn't use that anime color but instead they use other color effect since Eva mechas are semi organic here some color schemes painted by artist form Kaiyodo. Its a revoltech line but surely it might inspire you E-mail recieve from a friend on the bottom is the recapt on the event Kaiyodo designers participate in repaint event... At Wonder Festival 2007, Kaiyodo had three “display only” Revoltech figures. The figures were repaints by the Artists. From left to right, the figures are works by Tetsuya Umeda, BOME and Yoshinori Yatake. Tetsuya Umeda is in charge of the color used on many Kaiyodo products. For this repaint he wanted to keep the image from the animation while applying paints in such a way that would not be possible in mass production. The color may plainly appear to be dark purple, but under closer examination a crystalline pattern becomes apparent. BOME is the popular resident sculptor at Kaiyodo. Known worldwide for his sculpting skills, especially in the field of female bodies. Having been away from the painting end of the business for a while, BOME said he was having trouble regaining the “feel” for coloring. Wanting to completely change the image of Eva 01, he decided to use white as the primary color as well as some patterns painted in light purple. Yoshinori Yatake is a professional finisher who was invited to join in this repaint event. Asked to complete the project in one day, Yatake decided to do this in a motif which he was most familiar with……aliens. With the concept that Evas are actually “manufactured humans,” Yatake felt that giving it a surface color and texture similar to the aliens he is used to would actually be appropriate. (Personally I like the black and white one )

Thanks for the info!
Is this kit available at GT? How much? I don't see this anymore in stores- all I see are Gundam Seed kits.
Additional question:
Which would be a better paint for it- the TS24 Purple or the TS37 Lavander? So far, I'm leaning towards TS37 since it looks closer to the anime's color.

Just got my EVA-01 today from GT makati (and got a discount somewhat ;D) I'm planning to use tamiya spray paint since its the one I'm accustomed to and have used it several times already. But I need to ask for your opinions: I'm planning to use TS37 Lavander rather than TS24 Purple since it is darker than the latter hence it will look more "sadistic/angry" For the neon green, I'm looking at TS22 Light green, TS20 Metallic Green, and TS52 Candy Lime Green. Which one do you think is the one I should go with? For the yellowish parts (neck etc), I'm looking at TS34 Camel Yellow and TS56 Brilliant Orange. Which is better (in terms of looking the same as in the anime)? Hope you could give your opinions and help me build this great kit!

I can imagine right now. It will look good on it Anyways if you planning to use a green tone on his parts. try using a darker tone IF your lavander is on the lighter side and use a a brighter tone of green you may use IF your lavander is on the darkerside. The effect will look astonishing. No color will over power each other it will definitly complements it. Just a suggestion do you know reflectorize green(use in some signs on roads) Thats a good idea on the green parts. If your figure come across a black light it will look like this:

Thanks for the advice and suggestion!
From tamiya's site, the Lavander is a dark purple so I guess I'm gonna use a bright green tone. Haven't come across a relfectorized spray paint but you're right, it will become awesome when the light is off! ;D
Another Q for those who have the kit: Did you also paint the arms? I haven't painted the arms of my EVA-02 since I was afraid the paint wouldn't stick to it since it is constructed differently than the other parts.

Bro are you refering to a GLOW-in-the-dark paint? I was refering to flourescent paint/reflectorize... using blacklight/ultraviolet light(use in banks for analyzing counterfiets) it will surely glow. Its already avilable at hardwares even in malls(e.g. ACE & handyman) The product I moslty know is Krylon: krylon.com/main/product_template.cfm?levelid=5&sub_levelid=12&productid=1847&content=product_detailsIs the eva arms like a rubbery thing in texture? Sorry I totally forgot since I didn't continue building it anymore. I already gave it away About you question on your Eva arms. Try using textile paint its flexible and hard as acrylic...and its water base so it wont harm your airbrush.
