In the series, GI Joe had a Russian Counter part...
I vaguely remember them when G.I.Joe and their Russian counterpart were searching for a Czar's Egg that symbolizes ownership of Alaska and when they joined forces to atack Cobra in another episode.
I think the leader ever looked like M.Bison of treet Fighter hehehe!
What was the group's name? I can't remember it...
Did Hasbro also released figs of these guys?

The "Big Bear" was what Gung-ho called the Horror Show, the big guy who kept calling Gung-Ho "Ugly"... I think the girl was named Olga...(talk about your stereotypes ) and there was also an Eskimo type guy who wore a Cowboy hat and talked funny.. As far as action figures go, I remember reading an old issue of Toyfare that showed the Oktober Guard, there were 6-8 of figures in the pic, I'll try to post a scan if I can find the mag. Gold

Hello Hello, Yep October Guard is the name of the russian G.I. Joe - or G.I. Joe is the American version of the October Guard - as the October guard members always say! The members are: Col. Brekhov – The original commander of the October Guards. KIA (comics & figure) www.yojoe.com/action/98/brekhov.shtml (remake of Red Star figure) Daina – Czech sniper and helicopter pilot. Nov codenamed -Vorona (cartoon, comics & figure) www.yojoe.com/action/05/daina.shtmlDragonsky – Flamethrower (cartoons, comics & figure) www.yojoe.com/action/06/dragonsky2.shtmlHorrorshow – RPG trooper from Soviet republic of Georgia. Refered to by Gung-Ho as "ugly". KIA (cartoons, comics & figure) www.yojoe.com/action/05/horrorshow.shtmlShrage – East German infantry. KIA (comics only?) www.geocities.com/calvinnason/OG_Heavy_Machine_Gunner2.htmlStormavik – Russian para-trooper. KIA (cartoon, comics & figure) www.yojoe.com/action/05/stormavik.shtmlOther members: replacement Big Bear – Russian anti-armor specialist (figure only?) www.yojoe.com/action/93/bigbear2.shtmlLt. Gorky – Russian Naval Infantry (comics, cartoon?, figure) www.yojoe.com/action/98/gorky.shtml (remake of Big Bear figure) Red Star – looks like Col. Brekhov, but their relationship was never explained (comics & figure) www.yojoe.com/action/91/redstar.shtmlSgt. Misha – Russian Spetsnaz trooper (comics, cartoons?, figure) www.yojoe.com/action/06/misha.shtmlVolga - Daina? (figure only) www.yojoe.com/action/98/volga.shtmlWong – The only made-for-TV member. He is the only one from the Asian part of Soviet Union. He wears what looks like a black cowboy costume, and bears more then a passing resemblance to Larry Hama. (While uncofirmed, this is probably a deliberate joke on the part of the show's writers) (cartoons only) www.ffplaza.com/commcenter/interview/hama.shtml...from wikipedia-- and my useless knowledge up im my head Yo Joe ! -Armor1 < armor12001sg@yahoo.com >

@ armor1: welcome to the boards! wow, you have very extensive and impressive knowledge of g.i. joe! i guess the only ones i'm familiar with are those vintage releases. i was not really interested in the oktober guard releases, since i didn't think they were produced as well as their american counterparts. and they had such potential, too. especially weapons-wise! a shame, really, since i lived for three years in russia. @ gold: stereotype indeed. maybe they should create characters named natasha and yelena as well! hehehe

Ei Bruticus, Well, maybe because I collected them ever since they came out back in 82-83. I play with them. I still have my first ones actually -replaced O-rings and tightned joints now though. I used to contribute figure images at www.yojoe.com when the webpage was starting out. I sort of stopped collecting at the moment not because I have completed the line - but because I was able to get most of WHAT I WANTED. I always take figure out of the cards and boxes -THE WAY THEY WERE MEANT TO BE. As for the October Guard, weapons wise - people like me are known to use the Lanard Corps! line of vehicles especially the Field Tracker and their version of the APC www.smalljoes.com/lanard_corps_vehicles.shtmlI use the Mortal Kombat Sonya Blade figures for generic October Guard gal members actually - I name two of them Svetlana and Sovietskaya! LOL! www.yojoe.com/archive/actfig/mk/2sonya2.jpgwww.yojoe.com/archive/actfig/mk/2sonya.jpg....and they look more Daina than the actual Daina action figure. I was wondering why Hasbro never used that head mold again! No worries, I was chatting with someone in Russia the other day - apparently G.I. Joe never came out there during the 80's- I'm not surprised. Cold War years! -Armor1

same here, armor1. i only buy those that i want. otherwise, it will easily cost a fortune, especially since i only buy moc joes. so far, i've almost completed my want list of vintage joes. i keep them sealed on their cards, though, since they've become very expensive these days. ;D especially those which are hard to find, like the vintage issues of spirit, scrap-iron and snow serpent. no surprise that gi joe never came out in russia. in the 80s there were very few "western" goods available in russia, and only foreigners could buy these. nowadays, though russians are becoming increasingly fond of foreign imports, i think they're generally still allergic to the term "gi joe" which to them probably sounds too american. ;D
