This one looks to be a winner!
Great intro (no puny humans like infiltration , seems like they learned the lesson but it didn't stop IDW in doing an overt shameless plug to link the two storylines)
It seems as if Cybertron has been abandoned due to an apparent world wide catastrophe (did the Cybertronians release an "Adversary" beyond their control?) that irradiated the planet's surface. And Optimus (who looks like an amalgam of various incarnations)Prime never been to earth unlike the original premise of the Ark crashing in Mt. St. Helens....err Hillary 4 million years ago.
The main bad 'bot seems to be Thunderwing and the Pretenders( lost the opportunity to buy him gathering dust at Andings in Divisoria looooong ways back). If I am not mistaken, the other Pretenders are Bludgeon, Dowros,Blood and Gilmer (japanese name) and the shells they are using protects them from energon (?) overload in the surface (kinda like the organic transform modes of Beastwars that protect them from overloading their circuits).
The bots that were introduced is the upcoming Jetfire for the new classics line, the Technobots, Prime,Megatron, Trypticon and Omega Supreme(black and white flashbacks) and the afforementioned Pretenders. (I wished they'd introduce the uber rare Pretender Commander Metalhawk).
Anyway, the art is topnotch, no "Dreamwave" anime style but a gritty uber detailed realistic dystopian techno world ( wayyy better IMHO than the "Beast Wars" version) Figueroa ( I am praising him no doubt about it, kinda sucks when it comes to organics)
Only regret is that I missed his wrap around cover ver. A.
