according to the yamato representatives sa wonderfest as stated sa thread, di daw yan yung totoong paint scheme. Yahoo! low viz has a different shade than the original and may chance pa na all black yung stealth!

So they repainted it and it becomes stealth?? i don't get it... Changing paint colors won't make any difference in radar! The only real stealth valk is the VF-17

So they repainted it and it becomes stealth?? i don't get it... Changing paint colors won't make any difference in radar! The term 'stealth valk' simply refers to the paint scheme of the toy. But technically, and contrary to what you said, paint does play a large part in making an aircraft stealthy. There are two ways to make an aircraft invisible to radar: 1. It can be shaped so that any radar signals it reflects are reflected away from the radar equipment. This explains why the F-117 Nighthawk has a very angular shape, and there are no rounded edges. 2. The craft can be covered in radar absorbing materials. The F-117 Nighthawk, and more modern stealth aircraft like the F-22 Raptor, the F-35 JSF, and the RAh-66 Comanche use radar absorbing materials, including stealth technology paints to help absorb radar and microwave signals, to hide the aircraft. So 'yes', changing the paint scheme of the Valkyrie can turn it into a Stealth Valkyrie, and make it invisible to radar. ;D **edited for spelling.

juz wonderin wer the heck did they come up w/ the "camo" idea? did that appear in any Macross Anime? Nope. The 'camo' scheme is what Yamato calls it's 'collector variant.' A camo Valkyrie custom appeared in 2004's Tokyo Hobby convention. In truth, even the original Low Vis was a collector variant. Someone already created a custom low-visibility 1/48 even before Yamato came out with the idea. The only difference is, Yamato changed the pilot sculpt for the original Low Vis. So it is not impossible if the next wave of 1/48's that comes out include the Minmay Guard, Blue Roses, and Enigma color schemes.

ah, just some real-world technological explanations - but still VFs are just sci-fi stuff, so what the heck?! yamato just loves to mess consumers around with its "exclusive" variants, etc. Yamato has never released an 'Exclusive' or Limited Edition Variant for it's Macross line. Save for the original Low Visibility VF-1A, and the M&M Super 1J's. All three versions had a regular production run, so this technically does NOT make them Exclusives. The only thing making them 'limited' is the fact that they were never re-issued, unlike the other Variants. Very informative links. ;D

They did release a super limited black 1/48 VF-1J for a promo once. I don't remember that one, but even if they did, it was a promotional toy. If you get it by signing up for a credit card/bank, then the bank or CC could be an affiliate of Yamato, or other companies associated with Macross. This is not uncommon in Japan. Japanese often use/raffle off items (not limited to toys) as prizes to help their company or product gain customers and consumers respectively. Pinoy's do this too. Remember in the old days when opening an account at Banco De Oro gets you a G.I. Joe, or a Barbie (if you're a girl)? Same thing. There is a difference between that and creating a limited run for the regular toy collecting market, and then labelling it as an exclusive.
