Did anyone watch the Robotech Shadow Chronicles?... I know its not Macross base but it's a good conclusion after the Mospeada(Robotech 3rd generation) ended and all the confusing part comes in a full circle... You'll be introduce to new characters but it would be great if you read the Robotech Novels by Delrey... because some of the reference are here so you can't get confuse... I'll tell you a little background... Rick Hunter(Hikaru Ichijo) is admiral now, (he appears to be an old man suitable for his title) Maya Sterling (2nd daughter of Max and Miriya) (she was born during the expedition mission at Tirol) she's the Commander of the Skull Squadron... They also use 3D but its not as crisp like the Macross Zero though it still works fine... Its full of nostalgia all the original voices comes back to refresh their roles... its a must see for Robotech/Macross fans....

I finally got to watch this one last night after a long wait. (Some jerk went to my fave comic store and claimed my reservation as his.) While the storyline was good with a number of great highlights such as the space battles, which actually showed the battle formations (a first as far I remember), I felt that Harmony Gold was trying to create an epic but fell short. There were too many Star Wars references for my taste. An unknown and unforseen enemy strike the Robotech Expeditionary Forces and they seem to be channelling Emperor Palpatine with lines like "Everything is proceeding as forseen..." This impression was not helped by the sound track which did sound like music from SW at times then throw in Mark Hammil as one of the voiceovers... well, you get the picture. There were a few ST:TNG references too. This has the effect of making the story feel a little unoriginal and predictable.
Taking the SW references aside, the story was pretty good with an open ending that allows for a sequel. The art was great. I was worried that it would like more like an American cartoon than anime but OAV really carried that anime feel with good character designs with a decent blending of 3DCGI and 2D animation . I may be a diehard Macross Fan but this one was better than I expected.

Yup lots of similarity at Star Wars hehehe!!! but anyway the anime art is top notch from D.R. Movie in Korea... they work with various Japanese anime company, to name a few anime titles like Macross Plus, Macross 7 movie, Tenjho Tenge, Yukikaze, Eureka & Death Note...

i hope you guys read the shadow chronicles prelude comics...it explains the RAF years of Rick and the crew of SDF-3. Its 60% based from the sentinels but they changed some stuff in order to connect with the shadow chronicles movie.
Sentinels is not in continuity anymore

I thought it was just an adaptation of the movie... hmmm... I did not read the comics but I'm sure that it's the same story of the Robotech Sentinels from del rey, I read all the del rey pocket books... as far as I can remember to continue with the Robotech Third generation.... from Tirol Admiral Rick Hunter plan a three wave of fleet... first was wave when Sue Graham (war correspondent) came to earth.... then the second wave was the one that liberate earth from the Invids the third wave is suposed to be Rick Hunter's but there was a malfunction at the space fold (this was seen in the Shadow Chronicles)....

Not quite, here are a few things that were different: a. In the Robotech novels, Max and Miriya's daughter was named Aurora, not Maya. And by the time of the Expeditionary Fleets return to Earth (and attack on the Invid), Max and Miriya with baby Aurora had already opted to remain on Haydon IV. Aurora DID NOT become a fighter pilot anytime at all, although she did "pilot" a starship near the story's end. b. The Haydonites were not as malevolent as they were portrayed in this sequel. Yes it did turn out that they were hiding the secrets of Haydon himself, but it was nothing like the conspiracy theory like twists in the movie, and they most certainly did not answer to the Masters nor were they allied in any way. Haydon IV and it's inhabitants wanted as less participation in the war that was going on in that area of the Local Group (as the planets Tirol, Karbarra, Praxis, Geruda, Haydon IV, Peryton, and Optera/New Praxis were called), it was only when the Sentinels were able to liberate these planets did they have a more active participation in it. If any, they were victims of the circumstances too in the novel. c. And in connection with the item above, the Syncron Drive in both the novel and the movie was indeed co-developed/co-designed by Professor Louie Nichols, but in the novel it did not have that hidden flaw the movie version had. Oh, the Haydonites may lent a hand in its completion, but they were never out to undermine the Expeditionary Force in any way by implanting a "bug" in the designs. d. Although it could be left to the imagination/conclusion of the writers and/or the readers, there was no mention of Marlene Rush having a brother. e. The Sentinels' flagship was not the Icarus, but the Ark Angel, and the latter was a warship, not a colonization vessel. But it had a similar role in the movie: just as Col. Jonathan Wolff returned from Tirolspace in the nick of time and commandeered (stolen I should say) the SDF-7 class cruiser that will come to be known as Ark Angel and rescued the Sentinels from certain doom with Praxis' imminent destruction, so was the Ark Angel in the movie used as a means of escape. f. The Ark Angel and the SDF-3 were nowhere near each other, not in astronomical nor short fold-feasible distance in any case. The movie seems to implicate that they were just within parsecs of each other, instead of light years as the novel had it. Nor was the Ark Angel able to catch up with the SDF-3 anytime BEFORE or AFTER it executed a fold; though in the novel it was able to locate the black hole that was the entry point of the space-time rend the SDF-3's fold (or as will be revealed later, the Invid's phoenix departure from the physical plane to that other dimension) opened up. The Ark Angel's crew had to use a Haydonite sphere ship designed for singularity travel to catch up with the SDF-3. There could be some things I left out, but as far as I've laid out, I can say most of the plot for Shadow Chronicles was vastly different from the novels. Truth be known, I like the story much more in the novels, but the graphics for the movie are quite a step up from the old animation we all got to watch

It's been ages since I read the Robotech novels... just an add up... Janice in the Shadow Chronicles was made by Haydonites at the Sentinels Janice was Minmei's partner/singer was an android made by Dr. Lang... I hope to see Rick and Lisa's son Roy (named after Rick's idol Roy)

Yes I've forgotten about Janice hehe. I guess they made her a Haydonite creation in Shadow Chronicles in reference to one part in the novels wherein Haydon IV's Awareness seems to have an affinity to her, most of the time obeying her request for assistance during the liberation of Haydon IV from the Invid...
