i dont think the 1/48 is dead. theres still a lot of VF-1 variants that havent been released - elintseeker, trainer, D two-seater, 1A max tv version, VF-X/X2 colors, etc.
rest? i think its more of a psychological strain on resisting the new "upgrades".

dead? perhaps in as far as seeing new mecha designs at that scale.. which is good for completist i guess..
but dead in its literal meaning? hah! when a particular line of toy goes out of production.. what do you expect? hhmm.. market value appreciation..

I really can't decide yet if this is good news, because i've once owned a 1/48 Vf-1S and I fell in love with that scale. I'll reserve my judgment when the 1/60's start rolling out.
OT: does anybody have a link for dismantling a 1/48 Valkyrie? Might buy a 1/48 soon and would like to try my hand weathering it. The whole airburshing treatment i admire on the macrossworld forums. I tried asking the mwers but they ignored my query.
BTW did you guys see the MW frontier designs?

these upcoming toys are expected to "hit the 90USD mark" .. no this is not my speculation, but statements from far more knowledgeable collectors/those who got the scans of the whole article about it.. and FYI, regular valks at 1/48 are priced at $110-120.. cheapest is $100.00 (low visibility version 2.0) PRICE CHECKwe're talking here of a possible $20.00 price savings only with reference to the price for the 1/48 Valks.. NOT HALF THE PRICE, NOR 1/3.. i'm in no position to feed people of what is significantly acceptable applying "cost-benefit" principle.. but it's for you guys to figure out if such figure (20USD) would be enough to warrant all the hypes and the excitement.. and "inherently" celebrate a "preemptive fact" that the 1/48 is DEAD.. (my post in another forum)

I'm sure Yamato can sell it at a lower price but they know the market. they know that the consumer will bite the bullet so to speak to buy they're expensive toys. Remember the old 1/60's by Yamato? Made of die-cast (well partially) and it cost at around $60 (minus the 'patong').

exactly bro..
one of the paramount concerns/reason as to how are we gonna embrace this latest move by yamato (at the very most, i am speaking in behalf of the budget conscious) is how yamato would price their upcoming toys..
i'm pretty sure most of us here are keeping our hopes high that yamato would take their toys at a larger scope, in as far as chances of getting/collecting their items is concern, they will be afterall gonna be at scale 1/60 only.. now if they're gonna price it at just slightly cheaper than the 1/48s.. then don't you think it's just plain rip off??

Yes. Totally agree. I have a feeling that Graham of MW is somewhat responsible for this. He's a Yamato lackey! : )

i really feel that this topic is getting pointless......for one, we are all Macross fans and lovers alike .... Yamato just anounce the news that their going to re issue a new re-incarnated 1:60....im not saying we should all embrace this and jump in glee.....but hey....whether Good or Bad ....its still news.....besides no one is forcing anyone to buy the new 1:60 lines....if u feel ur being ripped by Yamato then dont buy it....its really that plain & simple....now i know how others feel abt this move by Yamato....IMO its really a lousy marketing strat to louver in back the fans.....but hey at the end of the day its still up to us consumers if were gonna buy this "less $20 cheaper" valks than the good 1/48 yummies .....but i think fans of Macross will still buy this 'coz....like Graham said....the Macross are literally "DeaD" ....in the production run.....but for me...i still gonna keep and cherished my one & only VF-1J......ooooh.....i just cant wait to take pix of the new 1/60 side by side w/ d 1/48's........

and the hunt goes on.... mojacko: i remember bro you were glad you didn't invested on the 1/48 line because you seriously think it's out of your budget constraints right? inherently thinking this upcoming valks would already fit within your allowable spending.. hhmm.. correct me if i'm wrong sir, but are you with me at presumably hoping this would would not drastically deviate from the cost of the orig 1/60s?? i don't think this is topic is getting pointless at all.. it isn't, at least for us fanatics in the third world country.. we don't have an endless surplus molaaahh to buy just about anything that yamato would feed us right? i myself, am giving it a though for at least 10x before getting a valkyrie.. simply it entails me alloting as much as 80% of my semi-monthly salary just to get it.. (i'm a government-slave-accountant.. just imagine the meager salary i get) but i agree though.. for the fanatics with thicker wallets.. this is pointless.. while for others this is plain B.S.. and maybe for some 1/48 collectors (i'm on of them) this is like finally seeing a ray of light at the end of the tunnel.. yes, i've longed for that chance to finally give my wallet its much needed rest.. thank you yamato for killing the 1/48 line ;D ;D

Exactly Mojacko, It's up to the consumers if they'll buy the the new Valks or not. Giver and I are just stating our observations on Yamato's new strat. And I really don't see how the topic got pointless. Now if Giver suddenly talked about Strawberry Shortcake dolls or something that's what i call a OT.
: )
On a side note: Do NOT buy the first release.
why? QC issues, no FP's. OR they might release a two-pack. 1S and 1J perhaps?

@ Checkmate....
IMO its pointless coz what exactly do u want Yamato to do??? even if we talk abt this issue until New Year (hopefully not) ....we really cant change the fact that the 1/60's are gonna be release again wheter we like it or not.....
pointless as in "never ending" .....i didnt said its Off Topic.....like "Strawberry Shortcake dolls or something" ....but if u Guys want to talk abt "Strawberry Shortcake dolls or something" .....i dont mind....but i dont wanna be part of it either.....
@ Giver....
FYI.....i only have 1 1/60...and i sold it off ...'coz of the fugly head sculpt that really puts me off.....so i really cant agree nor disagree abt the IT.....time will tell....who knows....someone will claim its "RARE" so they'll jack up the price.....
i really dont have that so many Macross Valks...i got most of the chunks and theyre pretty much lose in shape (poor me) and some i sold it off (downsize)... i only got 1 1/48.... so i really consider myself a "true" budget conscious collector....i too havent have that moolah to spare....'coz id rather spend my hard end paycheck on such importat matters....like groceries, paying bills....typical family DaD!!!
but i really dont feel pissed abt the news that Yamato's realeasing a new 1/60's line...coz im only planning on getting just 1 or 2.... ....im really not planning to complete the whole lot....coz i simply cant afford them......
so guys...r u planning on getting this "NEW" 1/60's???

I will not buy the first release.

no pun intended sir mojacko, but if being pointless has to do with the fact that yamato could do whatever they want (which is a given as we all know) then there is no reason as well for us to talk about other matters like: - issues on their products - what's coming - how are they gonna package it etc. etc. etc.. those are pointless too.. giving reference to your very contention that "it's pointless" since it will never influence yamaot's actions as to they feels like they're gonna make sure their items will be qc free, whether how are they gonna package it, what would be bundled witht the item, or when are they gonna release them.. but anyways.. regarding your question.. yes i will.. and actually i'm just as glad as anybody here about this latest development.. why? because it would mean completing all DRYL valks at "perfect transformation" most like i will get their VT and VE Valks.. that's it.. i don't want extras.. although i wish my budget would permit me.. by the way, i just sold my 1/60 Ostrich
