Galaxyforce keeps cranking up more b.utt kicking autobots and decepticons that its starting to hurt my pocket ;D
Presenting....................Megalo Convoy! (How I wish they don't automatically convert it to Metroplex )
Here goes my loving review for the towering titan:
Megalo Convoy (based on news reports comes from the planet Gigalonia) is somewhat slim, uber tall and fully poseable unlike his predecessor Metroplex.
Great homage to the face construct, with the exception of the blue antenna(original red), and gold face plate, Metroplex has returned. His got 16 points of articulation, light sourced glow eyes gimmick and a mean and nasty temperment (he looks ready to splat the decepticons)
Colors are primarily whilte, black, gray, gold, red and blue ( so we are cursed with the eventual yellowing of the white parts )
Great gimmick is his primary weapon......a digger, disc like staff that activated a swooshing sound when the planet key is attached (gold chrome plating with gear like patterns) It is powered by 2 AAA batterries. Push the key and the disc opens with the sound, push it again....same sound.
Also,to emphasize on his scale in the anime, a FULLY transformable Galaxy Convoy sans the trailer and weapon but in metalized red, white and blue ( okay aluminum gray ;D) now is included, all I need is the special issue limited version of Master Megatron. ;D to start a battle over him.
He also comes with a double drilled sidekick/minicon?. Horribull is his name. Trouble is, this one does not have any "M"or an autobot symbol. Great molding on the face though...........reminded me of Jazz with antennas. The sidekick's vehicle mode reminded me of Leader 1 of Micron Legend........except in reverse.
Speaking of Maxcon/minicon whatever, Megalo has slots totalling around 12. Why is that? Same for Sonic Bomber too....he had around 4.
Transformation is somewhat iffy......is he a large or should I say super-dimensional scale terra forming construction unit?
As in the previous instruction manuals of the galaxy series..............the black and white photos are next to useless......a bit of getting used to transforming him.
Back then in G1, when blocky and ugly( ) was the norm, I could only dream of owning Metroplex , managed to get Trypticon though, so now............who is Megalo Convoy's nemesis?
One things for sure, I hope it ain't Megatron Supreme size.
Back to poseability, I really dig it, but given his size and weight, he is somewhat unstable, specially when copying the kick@ss pose of the box. The staff like weapon is somewhat heavy and it needs quite a lot of stabilizing his feet to get him not to keal over.
Now for my personal opinion:
Name of Metroplex........if that is the official Hasbro line is somewhat iffy for me. The name denotes a base and Megalo does not have a base mode.
Metro titan would suffice or even yet Megalo titan, Megaplex? (Isn't megalo the name for a type of vendo machines in Japan) .
Wish he had a personal nemesis counterpart.
Noted peculiarities
Box....noted changes (Tomy Takara is sure cost cutting), no more locking slot in the openning lid. It is less thick and heavy.
No more battle scenes in the back, only the Convoys of the series for sale.
Biocard is a bit softer than the previous card.
No more catalogues........................... why takara?
Again with the mounting wires..........I hate it.
Buy or not buy? Since I assume, you all are transfans....then buy. Whether it is the JP or US, up to you fellas. (Just pray Hasbro also includes the mini Convoy...then it will be worth it.)
