Amidst the Hurley-burley caused by the release of the Classics line in the malls and the subsequent hunt for Classics Grimlock, this Alternator managed to sneak its way into "the usual" stores in Greenhills. Reportedly as the second to the last offering in the Alternators line, Alternators Ravage presents itself as one of the more unique TF's that have come out in recent memory.
Just as with the current line of Alternators, Ravage comes in the fish-bowl type of packaging:
To open the item and preserve the packaging, I simply trim off the rear of the plastic bubble. If there's one unique thing about the packaging system used in Alternators, it's that they do not use any twist-ties to hold down the item.
Out of the box, Ravage is a gorgeous black Jaguar XK. It's very refreshing to have a totally new car join the TF line-up!
It's great to see a high-end luxury car make its way into the Alternators line. This in itself answers the clamor for something that's not just another repaint.
As with all alternators, Ravage also features a detailed interior:
Regrettably, the only feature of Ravage in vehicle mode are the opening doors. It does not have an opening hood nor an engine. The back/trunk was not designed to open in car mode as well. If it weren't for the interiors, Alternators Ravage would be no different from the first G1/diaclone cars inspired by real cars.
Once you transform it, all doubts go away...
The Jaguar XK transforms into a gorgeous big cat that brings one name to mind: Ravage!
His front legs have an extra joint compared to his rear legs giving the front legs added pose-aibility. His neck to his head has a decent level of articulation and his jaws open up to a menacing angle.
Despite looking hollow from a side view:
He's not really that skinny. His black color works very well in his favor as it hides the nooks and hollow parts. His weapons are built into him and it gives a very nice feel to the overall appearance of the figure.
Ravage compared to BT Battle Ravage:
Battle Ravage: It's time you got even with him for keeping you locked up all this time....
Ravage compared to G1 Ravage:
Ravage compared to G1 Soundwave:
Soundwave: uh-oh.......ulp
Ravage getting even with G1 Soundwave:
Soundwave: help.....
Ravage and Battle Ravage ganging up on G1 Soundwave:
Ravage: "We're not taking orders from you anymore"
As a final note, with all due credit an apologies to Rohml, here is Ravage doing the kick test:
His hind legs, though not as pose-able as his front legs, offer a degree of stability to the figure. It's just quite a pitty that the leg joints use rivets instead of screws. He can't stand up on his front legs but he can do this:
In conclusion,
All in all, Alternators Ravage is a fresh breeze to the Alternators line. This is despite his Jaguar car mode's details not being at the same level as the other Alternators/BT. His animal mode alone is enough to justify his current retail value. I suggest that Ravage be placed on your "buy" list while he's still pretty much common...
...won't he look great as the perfect pet beside Masterpiece Megatron?
