Beast Wars Cybershark Review

by Kamadoma
Upon salvaging some of my old toys several months I ago, I stumbled upon Cybershark and saw that it was still in pretty good condition after all those years being stuck in a box of old toys. I think among those I dug up he's the biggest one in the best condition, no missing or broken parts, but only a few scratches here and there. The other stuff I picked up were the smaller classes.
Now on with the review!
PACKAGING: Since this is an old loose toy I dug, I'm totally skipping the packaging part.
ALTERNATE MODE: Hammerhead Shark
The hammerhead shark is pretty big in size, stocky, worth of a deluxe class. Has some spots in dark green and bluish colors fading to somewhat very light khaki in the belly. The only articulated parts here are the pectoral fins via ball joint.
You can press the trigger on the tail to flip out the claw-like weapon, or press the trigger to pop the head out. Other than that the figure is solid and of a very good design.
Summary of alternate mode:
- Very good colors
- Somehow in proportion, looks like a real shark
- Solid, excellent overall design
I'll give the alternate mode a 9.5 out of 10.
TRANSFORMATION:
Just remove the tail, open out the body from the middle. Pull out the peg connecting the body, pull it down and attach it to the hole in the lower part. Flip out the feet. Pretty simple, eh?
ROBOT MODE: Maximal Ocean Attack/ Tracker
Here's Cybershark in Robot mode. Again, a very good design and packs a good amount of features and articulation.
See how articulated he is. Pretty awesome for a 90's toy!
Some more action poses. The cannon on his chest can fold forward to launch the head, or one of the two missiles on his back. These missiles have a shark face engraved on the warhead, pretty cool concept. He can hold the tail weapon and the flipping action of the claw-thingy is done with the press of a button.
Summary of Robot Mode:
- Awesome articulation
- Lots of features
- Good color scheme
- Solid design
I'd give the Robot mode a 9.5 out of 10. I think the transformation process is the one that lacks, because it kinda looks like it's too simple.
OVERALL RATING: 9.5 out of 10.
MY THOUGHTS: Being able to recover this piece gives me a lot of good feelings seeing now that I appreciate it as a piece of ingenuity instead of throwing it around as a toy. It's a very good toy from the Beast Wars era. I think among my remaining Beast Wars figures, this is one of my most favorites.
