Pros: Starscream the uber geek! 'nuff said
: neat and clean paint job, less smudging
: two facial expressions
: anime accurate Dr. Arkevil
: high lighting of the details, wing flaps and multi directional vectors, radar radome
: separate finger digits
: minimum carbon scoring effects
: accurate tech specs
Cons :
: finger digits tend to fall off
: Weathering effects (the silver thing on his back)
: No biocard (there is one on the box, but I prefer the one in the Japanese version)
: No decals
: no TTM 2005 crown (remember the conceptual pics?)
: packaging, I prefer the MP "wine box" presentation
The rant:
Shoji Kawamori is one @ss kickin' engineer! How he squeezed the F15 design into this piece of engineering is beyond me. He is one of the gods of toy engineering!
But, though I understand his initial push for the "realistic" look over the anime style, I believe it was a marketing mistake. (Take a look how this latest version is virtually flying of the shelves)
If you weren't familiar with this genre, you'd have mistaken this for a model toy. The highlighting effects are outstanding and the weathering effects are wayyyyyy better from the initial pics that had a lot of carbon scorching.
My beef is the aluminum like effect on his back, it seems to be overdone.
For those asking whether he's diecast, he does have a metal frame that helps hold his central frame (which is painted in gloss black) so be careful when transforming him of it chipping off.
If Takara will indeed release a "cleaner" version, well good, but I wish they'd include the "crown" prior to his being turned into a ghost.
Don't buy it on my say so (I play with my unit) but get it for what he is.........the best representation of such a classic and memorable TF character.
