Price: secret hehehe
Manufacturer: TakaraTomy
Product serial number: 4904810792406 (Ratchet) and 4904810792390 (Ironhide)
Country of Origin: China
Here it comes folks, the butt ugly twins from the G1 line back in all their blocky, non cartoon accurate glory! ;D
Since both are just repaints of the other, unless otherwise differentiated, my review applies to both.
Objective Input:
Both transform into a japanese Hi Ace type Van or more accurately a Nissan Onebox Cherry Vanette. Ironhide is colored red while Ratchet is a white ambulance. Unlike their original G1 1984 incarnations the label designs on their sides are now stamped marked and not stickers. The same for the black sky light on Ironhide's top.
The advantage is, no more label peel offs, the disadvantage is that you cna see the holes on the plastic.
Unlike the 1984 Ratchet 1st run which had the red cross of the Red Cross, the symbol is absent (despite the box art portraying it). Some sites indicated that the second run of Ratchet's had the "red cross" removed from the box art due to some dispute with the Red Cross organization.
Anyway, just in all the 1st season G1 characters, both Autobots have diecast metal content, on their front chest and fender and on their feet. The rest are all plastic and vacuum chromed headlights, bumper, tank threads and hip guard.
Accessories and freebies:
Bio card, label and instruction sheet. (3) missiles, and mounted cannon(?) and a red thingie used to mount the cannon. Oh, almost forgot, a perforated cut out of both 'bots in their cartoon "Deryfied" images.
Subjective Rant:
Despite their butt ugly figure (being diaclone exo frames (at least thats how I see them)), they both exhibit an old school charm that you can't just ignore. Heck the mere fact you own one is satisfaction enough.
I also noticed when comparing the plastic with the original G1 one issues, it is kind off light in the weight and there is some mold degredation in the gun mount of Ironhide and Ratchet's trailer.
I won't even go to their lack of heads, the cardboard cutouts being the testament to the flaw (so I used one of Reprolabels' upgrades.(good enough but still........... )
As a whole, if you are into G1, you musn't miss this one, Primus knows when Habro will ever re-issue one. So buy the ornery body guard and the affable physician. You won't regret it.
