It took me a while to get this but it was worth the wait.
Short history the VF-0S was one of the first developmental valks developed by the UN. The VF-0S was piloted by Roy Foker during a UN team expediton to the Mayan islands and was initially equiped with a prototype GBP armor. ( The main character of Macross Zero Shin pilots the VF-0A. Roy is Skull 1 while Shin is Skull 2)
Fighter Mode
The VF-0S is upposed to be the predecessor of the VF-1S but its plane design looks more advanced and hi-tech. The VF-0s has a removable nose cone antena attachment which is absent in the VF-1 valk. Like most of the Yamato valks the landing gear is hard to pull out!
In this mode I noticed there are no major flaws with Yamatos design and IMHO is the most sturdiest among the 3 valk modes.
Gerwalk
First of all glorious! The antenna attachment for its gerwalk mode is retractable and non removable, a feature I wish they added to the VF-1 valks. Also I like the retractable booster gimmick found behind the backpack.
Major complaint! I dont know if its theres something wrong with how I pose the valk but I cant seem to get to make the valk stand on its own in gerwalk mode. The thingypit area is too heavy and long which makes the valk fall over if unsupported.
Battroid Mode
Major props to yamato for improving the transformation sequence of its mechs. Transformation is very sturdy except for the usual wobbliness when pulling the hinge for the leg parts. be careful BTW when seperating the leg from the backpack as the peg is susceptible to wear and can be broken of easilly if excesive force is applied.
The leg and arm joints are tight although the hands are still a problem as it is difficult to make them have a solid grip on the gun pod. Possibility is excellent, a feature absent with the 1/55 valks.
Lastly I was told that there were qc problems with the magnetic attachments that come with the leg armors. Some VF-0's leg armors came with magnets with opposite polarities which prevented the armor from attaching to the valk. I was lucky to get a good one so I'm hoping the VF-0A wouldn't have these kinds of problems.
With its Pilot Roy Foker (Roy figure by CMS)
All in all the VF-0S is a good buy. I love the valk design as it looks like a cross between a Vf-1 and VF-4 (Valks used after the DYRL storyline). Despite the possability problems in Gerwalk mode I think its other modes compensate for it. I cant wait for the VF-0A to come out! Although I still have no idea how this became a 1/60 scaled valk when its size is close to the 1/48's.
