Short answers to a complicated problem: 1) If the material has a metal base, yes, they can be rechromed easily. Try electroplating services at an auto or jewelry repair shop near you. 2) If it has a plastic base, bummer. Yes it can be done, but I don't know anyone here that offers it.
Both will cost you, with the latter more so. ;D

i have a much simpler solution... buy a chrome paint and paint your toy newly chromed again... pero di nga lang ganon kaganda yun chrome... paint nga lang kasi.

i've tried the chrome spray paint and i dun think its a very good idea to use it on toys. its thick and kinda hard to control plus its more like silver really than real chrome. i think i saw somethin on tv that offers chrome paint for cars. i mean cars basically have fiberglass/ plastic fiber composed chasis right so it may work. if anyone out there knows a good solution it will be most appreciated.

I tried to use the RJ paint chrome on a restoration project of a vintage zoid. Some chrome pieces were missing so I opted to use pieces from a same zoid but in a recent release, paint it with the RJ chrome. The chrome didn't really match the real chrome plated. It's a plastic base. here's the thread: greattoysonline.proboards43.com/index.cgi?board=zoidstoys&action=display&thread=1132658779you can see the main body part in chrome, that's the real thing. The chrome on the head is a little flat, that was the RJ chrome. I also used the RJ chrome for painting the pilots during other restoration projects, but they didn't turn out to be the exact shine as the chrome plated plastic.

And the quest continues for home plastic chroming... ;D
Like most customizers, I have a couple of chrome (and gold) spray cans at home. I agree, they don't come up to expectations (the heartbreaker is this brand that chromes the spraycan cap -making you think that's how it's going to turn out - and yet all you end up with is a dull silver, even gray color).
If you happened to catch "Rides" last week, the episode about ZZ Top's cadillac, a technique was offered (and which might help for plastic): 1) lay on a glossy black undercoat, polish, make it real shiny. 2) A special "chrome" paint is applied, after which a clear coat is applied.
I don't know how special (or expensive) this chrome top coat is, or where it can be bought, but a little experimentation might help. Will try using RJ as a top coat with this technique.

how were they able to chrome plastic parts? can you give more details on this? thanks! Sorry, can't give you more details about this one, and photos of the said chrome plastic parts. Mine, kasi yung pina chrome ko yung link bar, P.S.U. from my PC, and yung ashtray wheels ay "electroplating" ang ginamit nila. (don't know what kind of method they use)

If you have an Airbrush, or you know someone who has an airbrush, then you can opt for the GSI Mr. Metallic paints. They have 3 different levels of shiny paints that are chrome like. Aluminum, Silver and Chrome Silver, the latter being the shiniest. And this type of paint can even get shinier if you buff it off.

Saw that sa mga IMF and Chrome Dazzler they chrome mga plastic parts for cars and motorcycles. I wonder if pwede for mga plastic toy parts?
