here are some of the stuff that i use in modelling....
Nailcutter/Nipper - a certain stuff from the manicure set which you can use for cutting down spruce not just breaking or tearing it from the runners,, i'll suggest the nipper if r cutting bigger spruce, you can use these instead of bandai cutters if you dont have one...
Gum eraser - i've seen this trick from danny choo's website, they usually use gum eraser(or some good erasers) to clean up the mess when your lining with a gundam marker...
a sandpaper thing from th manicure set - dont know how they call it but is good for cleaning up not to mention quite fine and you'll have less difficulty in sanding..
scalpel-good for trimming down, thinner than a cutter or a hobby knife & it costs lesser...
thats all i can think of as of now... so its for you readers to add up. if there are disadvantages by using this try to post it too.
thanks for reading......

I used to use nipper for cutting parts from sprues until I switched to Tamiya cutter. Tamiya cutter makes the best cut, if the part is flat, you can actually cut it free and w/o need to sand it.
I also use a nail buffer to polish some parts, its better/finer than 2000 grit sandpaper.
