alclad II lacquer paints gives the best metal finish(but they're very very expensive). In general, I think GSI mr. color is pretty good. they also make the 'super metallic' series bro, standard industrial spray paints lang. like the ones we buy sa ACE, DIY hardware stores. i don't have an Airbrush to use bottled GSI, Tamiya paints. and if i use handbrush, the strokes will be obvious. TIA.

SPRAY PAINTING ON RAINY WEATHER
This is copied from the What Kit are you currently working on?
this is based on my experience last weekend:
i think cold temperature affects the paints (spray paints). i sprayed some, and all it was done is put some paint blots on my kit. that's why i cleaned it up with mr.thinner. when i asked around, some say to put the can on a warm water first before using it. when i use spray paints during ordinary day, it sprays just fine. i guess, cold weather freezes some molecules or particles of the paint. i think. will research some links so we can have a better explanation on this matter.
here's what i've read so far over some forums:
lacquer & acrylic paints are sensitive to humid weather. it can cause some clogging to the nozzle due to the water vapors that mix with the paint caused by humidity. and the dry time will take longer compare to sunny weather, which can help the paint to dry faster. so with humid/rainy weather, it's better to put the spray can first to warm water before using them.
ikabod's post: it's more of the humidity issues, water content ng air, being mixed with the paints before it hits the surface to be painted, that gives a frosting effect on sprayed paints. . . plus it won't stick to the surface that much.

hi guys need your insights on this 1.what gold color can i use to imitate/come close to the shine of gold plated kits (i.e: hyaku shiki or gold frame amatsu)? 2 i have the GSI metallic gold but seems too dull are there any substitute? preferably industrial spray paints if not branded sprays like mr.color will do. but what shade of gold? thanks in advance

@ tobatz
recently bought a can of "rj 18k" gold paint. i plan to give my old hg god gundam a new look. haven't tried it on the kit yet. i bought it @ ace hardware in megamall. you can also see other brands of spray paints that can give that plated look. prices range form P160-P250

looks like copper than gold, looks great. although i think it would hard to get that kind of color in spray cans which are not for hobby use.

A few newbie questions..
I dont have an AB,but i want to paint my gundam to make it look better,no flash color mods just want to bring its color's to life and more vibrant..
whats the best can based spray paint brand to use which is not expensive but does not also compromise the quality of paint.
and is priming it a must?

(although if you're in this hobby, be prepared to invest a bit initially to get started) i hope this helps.

What i plan to do is only remove the seam lines and add panel lines.. and maybe at most repaint the entire kit with the same stock colors but for a vibrant/brighter version of it.

Tamiya is better. Just more expensive. however, paint your kits with whatever paint you want as long as it won't harm your kit's plastic parts.

Its better in a sense that the colors are more brighter? say for example a Tamiya vs Pylox white, black or blue. In what sense is it more better, aside from having a huge color selection
