am trying it for my mg spegiel. . . and it's harder than i thought, really sweating it out with sanding/rubbing each parts to smooth it and flatten out the colors or the platic. . . and am actually having a second thought of quiting it and just paint the gund**n kit.

thats the good thing about this technique. if you want to paint it afterwards, you can still do so,. hehe. am trying it for my mg spegiel. . . and it's harder than i thought, really sweating it out with sanding/rubbing each parts to smooth it and flatten out the colors or the platic. . . and am actually having a second thought of quiting it and just paint the gund**n kit.

Haha! I think you can do a partial painting technique.... basically do most of the steps stated on the no paint technique but on items in which you can remedy through minor painting like say sprues. You can just apply paint on the sprues part just so that you can get rid of the discolored part (after sanding) and then just use topcoat so that the colors even out.....
sorry if I didn't make sense. tried to explain it as best i can..... =p

Now im confused with all this clear base paint, top flat coat, flat clear paint... If i goto tamiya which one would i specifically look for? i want to hide the sanded parts w/o the need to repaint..
also if i spray only on the sanded area whould the colors standout instead?

yup, it's paint or no paint at all. . . well maybe for those details that really need painting (boosters, small details etc.) but painting the sprus marks, ewll that's kinda like cheating neodarkwhat do you mean by sanded parts? what do you want to hide? you mean the scratches? then i guess you're using a coarse sand paper, why not try to use fine grits sand papers (15000 to 2000) and finish off with some finer buffing compounds (2000 up).

oh btw, don't ask me what it would look like when done on a gunpla, haven't gone to that part of the sanding yet, am still at the stage removing the sprue marks with a sharp blade, and smoothing it of with 600 to 100 grit abbrassives. but i know for sure those i mentioned above would give you a smooth and even finish, no visible scratches. cause been doing that preping up heatsink for compute processors. we call that lapping, have to have a smooth and flat finish on the heatsink in contact ith the processors die so as to have the best thermal conductivity. . . and yes am a little bit O.T.

flatcoat and topcoat are the ones you use to prevent the kit from scratches and dulling of color. also used to even out colors in the no paint thing. clear paints are paints. (hmmm how do i explain this) use use these paints for clear plastics. example... glass or window of a plane.. or the eyes of a gundam. (some gundams have clear plastic eyes) so when light hits the clear plastics it sorta has a glowing eye effect. clear base paint? im not sure with this one. i think this is the one you use to make paint stick... i saw one of these at National. hehe. and if it says flat it means its not glossy. if you want to hide sanded parts you use flat coat. flat coat helps in hiding scratches. if you want a glossy effect use topcoat afterwards. and if you spray on the sanded part only i would stand out. ** im not sure with this. correct me if im wrong. ;D Now im confused with all this clear base paint, top flat coat, flat clear paint... i started using this no-paint technique on my HGUC Zeta Gundam (fixed Wave Form). i tell you guys, that sanding & cleaning can take your time really well. over the course last night, i just finished sanding the shield/nozzle and the right leg. the nozzle/shield looks great. no seam line. but there's a "UKA". guess, i scrape the kit with my x-acto knife real hard. if i'm going to sand it to level it... baka maubos yung kit, kaka-sand. i'll try to post picture tomorrow about this 'uka'. i'll also post the other nozzle/shield from the MS form. so everyone can see the difference with & without sanding. IMO, i find this no-paint kit building feature kinda interesting. ;D

i also use the same blade as no3ljim, its pretty sharp.. but i mask the other half of the blade so i can avoid any uncalled scratches on my kit.
