PilapZ yes it really depends on your preference. SOme might like Flat since it kinda makes it more realistic and is very good to complement weathered effects to make the kit look more "used" in actual battle or whatsoever. oldskul I think some people do use topcoats on their kits to protect the rub-on decals.

got a q for all of you, is top-coating an OOB(out of box) kit will make it look flat? but then it will still have those molding lines though, right?

zero yup, you can spray topcoats on OOTB kit. and it depends if you're gonna use gloss topcoat or flat topcoats.
you can also check this thread Gundam No Paint Technique.

no3l =- as always, thanks for the info. i've seen that no paint technique awhile back but haven't seen anyone else used this method.
shinn =- what do you with the molding lines? do you just let it be or sand it off?

jnthn if i have tym i sand it but if u're like me hu doesn't paint his kits, the scratches wud be visible if u just spray topcoat over the kit.. i usually just let them be... cuz i'm not that metikuloso nman with my kits...

i think so man... i don't think its a gud idea to combine metallic colors with flat coats?? i'm not shur... but if it was me, what i wud do is just spray glossy or semi-glossy coats over the metallic paint... because in the first place, the reason i sprayed metallic paint is to have a medyo-shiny effect.. so no point in spraying flat coats over the metallic paint.. un ang pgkakaintindi ko ha? i dunno... try asking other hobbyist.. i'm no expert dude...

I customized action figures and tfs. I'm not considering myself an expert but I suggest use flat since your using flat paints. if you want to be glossy use gloss. if flat-gloss but sometimes the effect doesn't affect that much. always paint 1-2times not to many and dont spray it to much its better if you control it, just one stroke. Hope it helps
