Can anyone confirm this:
i got a text saying that Filbars and several other stores have been raided and are being charged under anti-piracy laws for selling anime VCDs/DVDs...as well as anti-porn laws for the hentai anime...

walang lang sigurong maibigay na "payola" kay edu manzano...he he he! kidding aside, piracy has been around and the government has been raiding stalls and shops to stop this. pero as the singer moby once said: "if the corporations don't do something to make their products reach the common class, it will prevail." nakakalungkot talaga isipin...kung tutuusin

piracy has been in a very long and old history and i think piracy will never go away it will stay forever in our midst as long as technology keeps on advancing piracy as well will advance pero as everybody has said and have said it before "when people stops buying pirated media's piracy will stop as well". Arrgh mate shibe me timber .... ;D

Yup. If they only make it more affordable right? In some aspect piracy sounds kinda good right? Cheaper knock off properties allows us to enjoy hard to find itens or videos, so long as its not for profit/for private use right? But where do we draw the line?
Lets take the view of the investor or creator:
GT for instance, he invests a considerable amount to source.................let say Transformers Galaxy right? GT is a small company so he has to recoup on his investments, But here comes Bankee, deeper pockets given them opportunity to sell more are reduced prices.
Where does that leave the small investor?
Same for let's say game pirates, you are treading in the niche genre of gaming, you know, small audience with minimal return on investments but your core audience is a shoe in, you design a game, haggle with your investors, package and pay the necessary licenses etc No wonder you might have to increase the price of your wares right?
Here comes a pirate, only investment is an industrial strength cloning fabricator and a little pay off to the local authorities...........who is gonna loose in the long run? (Whose fault is that? Technology that allows for cheaper fabricators?)
I am not siding with the Big Corporate slugs that run the main Industries ( MS and SONY have lots of mullah............they can later afford to sell their greatest hits line at less the cost of the initial run ex. FFX ($50) but the greatest hits version is around ($20)).....still, if you need some cash infusion to pitch in a high risk investment venture........who you gonna approach?
A better alternative would be to price such units depending on the purchasing power of the specific region you plan to distribute. Distribute them adequately, deprive pirates the reason to sell the knock offs.

I agree with that. Because of the fees, software development and taxes to be paid, the capitalist can jack up the prices. Kaya naman ang pirates, ayan, knocking-off stuff. It would be a long and hard battle, specially because of technology and sharing. It might be wise to look at the root of the problem and do something about it. Pirates are like the Hydra, when you cut off one head, it grows back again.

I would not be surprised if OMB’s recent raid was based on a tip. Ayala Land, which operates Glorietta, has made an effort in the past to prohibit the sale of pirated DVDs. I will not go into details, but I do know that pirated DVD movie retailers in Glorietta made an extra effort to continue trading their wares. How did OMB find out that Filbars, known more as mag and comic book store, sells unlicensed anime dvd? If I were a pirated DVD retailer with a mall presence, I would be extremely bothered by this development. My point is that lets be careful discussing and pointing out pirated DVD sources. Better safe than deal with an army of lawyers. My two centavos. Interesting read on piracy in the Philippines: www.iipa.com/rbc/2006/2006SPEC301PHILIPPINES.pdf
