The Ghostbusters are back!

Writer-Actor and Ghostbusters Alumnus Dan Aykroyd announced last month on Canadian radio that Ghostbusters 3 is already in development.



Plans are underway to make a fully-CGI sequel of the 80s hit movie, which finds our beloved Ghostbusters traveling to an alternate hell-type version of New York City to confront Hades,who has reportedly been sending spirits back to Earth because hell is already full. ;D

For now, the working title is either Ghostbusters in Hell or Ghostbusters 3: Hellbent.

Though many have criticized the fact that the movie will be CG-animated instead of the live-action type we've come to love, the good news is that Bill Murray (Dr. Peter Venkman) has agreed to voice his CG character, along with Dan (Dr. Ray Stantz) and Harold Ramis (Dr. Egon Spengler). Ernie Hudson (Winston Zedmore) has also expressed his interest in reprising his role.

Apparently, Bill Murray has refused to appear in a live-action version of the movie. Columbia Pictures, which owns the rights to the Ghostbusters movie franchise has also initially disapproved a live action version because of the cost.

Dan Aykroyd, who is developing the script along with Harold Ramis, finally came up with the CGI solution to cut down on cost and get Bill Murray involved.

Finally, and after two decades, we might actually get to see another Ghostbusters movie soon!

well i guess CGI-made movies are in nowadays instead of live action...and remember the actors are now old(and getting fat) so i guess its better for the new Ghostbusters movie would be a CGI...look @ TMNT now

Updates on Ghostbusters III, now in development by Columbia Pictures:

Ernie Hudson told Moviehole.net, that Ghostbusters III is still very much a possibility. He said he hoped that the new video game would generate renewed interest in a 3rd Ghostbusters film.

On September 4, 2008, Columbia Pictures signed on Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (writers for the U.S. version of The Office) to script a third film. No deals will be made with the original cast until the script is complete. The story will feature old and new Ghostbusters. Harold Ramis (Egon Spengler) had collaborated with Eisenberg and Stupnitsky on The Year One. Judd Apatow is also producing that film, and has made other films for Columbia, so they hope he will provide cast members for Ghostbusters III. Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman are consulting on the project, and Bill Murray will be involved on some level, having expressed interest in reprising his role. ;D

that was the plan, initially.

but now that columbia has green-lighted the project (with the hiring of the writers), then a ghostbusters 3 live-action movie is definitely in the works.

some updates:
1. almost all the original cast members have expressed their willingness to reprise their roles in ghostbusters 3. that means we will see bill murray, dan aykroyd, harold ramis, ernie hudson AND sigourney weaver back in action.

2. the original ghostbusters will probably play more of "mentor" roles, passing on the torch to a new group.

3. from dan aykroyd's concept, there will be a new "core group" of younger ghostbusters, which includes women. they are trying to recruit alyssa milano to play one of the new ghostbusters, as she lent her voice to a character in the video game.

4. there is also a possibility that eliza dushku will be one of the new ghostbusters. ;D

5. the script is apparently near completion, and some people associated with the project are saying that production could begin as early as this winter.

I have been a fan of Ghostbusters since I was a kid and I recently watch Ghostbusers 2.
