Spider-Man Will be Spectacular on TV
Official title announced for Spidey's new animated series.
by IGN Staff
June 18, 2007 - When Spider-Man returns to television next year, he might not be amazing, but he'll sure be spectacular. Kids WB! On The CW have announced that The Spectacular Spider-Man is the official title to the super hero's new animated series, which is in the works for next year.
The series had previously gone by the tentative title of The Amazing Spider-Man. Both the Amazing and Spectacular titles are of course ones that have been used by Marvel Comics for their many Spider-Man comics, though Amazing is the flagship title for the character.
Debuting in early 2008, The Spectacular Spider-Man picks up the world-renowned web-slinger's mythology at the beginning of his hero's journey as a not-so-typical 16-year-old with new-found powers engaging the multi-leveled pressures of teenage life while combating bigger, badder super-villains in the real world.
Greg Weisman (Gargoyles / The Batman) is supervising producer on The Spectacular Spider-Man. Victor Cook (Hellboy: Blood and Iron) is producer/supervising director.
GREG WEISMAN on "The Spectacular Spider-Man"
Although forever branded as the creator of Disney's Gargoyles, Greg Weisman has a long career in writing for television animation. His additional credits include Max Steel, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, W.I.T.C.H., and The Batman. Come this January, he'll be bringing new adventures of Spidey to the small screen via The Spectacular Spider-Man, which will be airing on Kids WB. Seemingly inspired by both the classic Stan Lee/Steve Ditko comics from the 1960s as well as Ultimate Spider-Man, the new series will pick up just a few months after Peter Parker has been bitten by a radioactive spider and transformed. In the following four-part interview, Greg provides all the background you could possibly need on the show's early development and approach to the characters and story lines.
