I would still go for the PS2. It still has an overall better game line-up than the PSP.

I'd probably go with PS2... But ever since I started working and having lots of extracurricular commitments, I hardly ever had the time to sit in front of the tv and play. This is why I love my PSP.
Also like archaznable mentioned, you should aim for the PS3 if you don't mind the hefty price tag. It's backwards compatible with PS1/PS2 games. I guess it all falls down on the PSP's portability vs the PS2's game library.

mod programs or the so called homebrew softwares can only be played if you have a custom firmware. new models of the psp has firmwares which are not downgradable yet to fw1.5.
Firmware 1.5 is the base firmware where in you can play most homebrew softwares and ISO images on a memory stick. When you have this type of firmware then it is safe to assume that you can upgrade to a custom firmware like 3.10OE (upgrade with caution) which has a higher stability and more gimmicks than the standard fw1.5
AGAIN: Downgrading a psp's firmware to 1.5 is RISKY!!! do not try this if you are not sure of what you are doing. since there is a chance that you can turn your psp into an expensive paperweight.

Get a PSP with a 1.5 firmware and install a custom firmware. Some shops in SM's cyberzone & Viramall area sell PSPs with custom firmware already installed. Also try to get a 2Gb Memstick Duo or higher if you're going to use ISOs. Just beware of trojans & viruses if you're gonna get the PSP from those shops. My brother got his modded PSP from one of these shops and found a trojan residing in the memstick. Probably got it when the shop loaded an ISO to the memstick. Here's a link to tell the firmware of the PSP from the box: www.devhardware.com/forums/gaming-consoles-77/psp-how-to-tell-what-firmware-version-from-the-box-92415.htmlYou could checkout this link from wikipedia to learn more about PSP homebrew: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psp_homebrew

i chose the PS2... well the obvious is that there are already a ton of games out there that are quite good. im not really a fan of portable gaming thingy.
and in my opinion i wouldn't buy a ps3 in about 2 years time. the console isn't that well established yet, games are so limited, and the thing carries such a hefty price tag. oh and the blue ray disc... dvds games itself are expensive... what more for this brand new technology?

I just ordered a PSP, are original games widely available in Manila? What is the price range? Am wondering whether I should get more of my games here now or there when I get back in a few months.
