man, those were the days. how simple life is. too bad we got dominated by technology esp online gaming. hehehe. ;D
back in the 80's we used to play Millionaires, Games of the General, Battleship, Cluedo, Pictionary, Scrabbles, Life, MAD and ofcourse, Monopoly.
and yes, it's sad that no one plays board games anymore. what more playing 'tumbang preso', cops & robbers, habulan, sipa, etc?
kids these days are so into computers, online gaming and playstations. i remember one weekend, i said to my kid cousins that they should atleast go out and play. even ride the bicycle, and not spend the whole weekend in front of the TV playing playstation. ;D

i remember when we were still kids and whenever it was someone's birthday, on sunday we would have an afternoon party. the whole family would be there playing party games like pin the tail on the donkey, basagan ng palayok , and of course, bingo. i use to play chess a lot during free periods in high school. there's this board game we play at the office. you get clues and you are supposed to come up with songs that pertain to the clue. it could be a word like "love", then you would have to sing a song with the word "love" in it, or a clue like "country", and you would have to sing a song with a country mentioned in the lyrics. it was fun coz you would be laughing when someone sings a tune that you havent heard in a long time, or you would laugh when they sing an oldie coz it shows how old they are. heheh man, those were the days. how simple life is. too bad we got dominated by technology esp online gaming. hehehe. ;D

archaznable wow we also have the old MAD board game, really fun! YOU ARE MAGNIFICENT! For me we used to play Millionaires' Game but in a different way. We don't do mortgage, and we keep on buying lots for the lower price, and the bigger price is the one paid to the owner, so in that case, the income is way bigger than the expenses for a lot, so we never finished the game until we decided it's time for "ayawan" and count who has the biggest bucks.

I just bought Monopoly Philippine edition a month a go, my 8 yr old son liked it very much. I used to play it when i was a kid together with my brothers and sisters. Now am playing it with my son. When I saw at Landmark department store a Spongebob Squarepants edition of monopoly am thinking, how about collecting different versions of monopoly. Hmmmmm....

Hmmmmm.... that's going to be a very expensive hobby not to mention very diverse! i've seen monopoly board games of everything! Haha, i do remember that chicken thing! it was so funny, i had a blast playing that board game with family and friends. funny thing about video games, PC's and children nowadays is that, i know we used to have those back then. i even started with atari all the way up to SNES and PS when i got to HS, but we still chose to go out and play.. it's like kids don't play as much with boardgames, or go outside to play because they see US playing with Videogames and staying in front of the PC chatting here at the Forum! ;D

tha'ts coz most videogames backl then can be beaten/finished in less than half an hour. when those extremely long RPG's arrived, that was when gamers spent days on one game alone and even held off going to the bathroom. also when the console memory card came to be, a game lasted more than just one sitting coz you can save the game and resume at another time. back during the SNES days, all you had was the cartridge and you had to beat the game otherwise turn it off and start over.

Well I think we can totally compare RPG to a Board Game. Cause some of RPG's elements were really derive from board games ingenuity and complexity to the game.

Robocop 3 for the Snes can argue with the half hour beatable genre! zelda,FF all had save games thru passwords.. i just believe it all boils down to upbringing, my nephews still play with boardgames, toys, even play outside because we teach them to. my 2 cents i used to play D&D and Marvel RPG Board games back in GS and HS and it was the Granddaddy of RPG's! miss those old school dice rolling, Hit points computing, and paper characters role playing! very addicting. same thing goes for the new RPG's today..
