In the unlikely and unfortunate event in which we see a crack or scratches on our psp, what should we do?
Post suggestions, comments and inquiries here. Thanks! ;D
For me, I recently noticed scratches on the back part where it says PSP on the UMD slot. Is that replaceable?
Also if the buttons aren't functioning as they should or if you just want to plain replace them (saw I want red buttons on a black PSP), is that possible and how?

Regarding the scratches on your PSP, if the scratches are on the silver ring there's a replacement part for that. Some shops sell replacement parts, I got mine at Brochiere though they tend to charge a bit high for the spare parts. If you got the whole back part scratched, you'll going to have the entire back casing replaced. If it's just the UMD door then you're lucky as you'll only have to replace the door. Your best bet against scratches is to get a case for your psp since they're really prone to getting scratched.
To change the buttons, you'll going to have to crack open the psp & take out the face plate. Beware as opening the psp will surely get some dust & lint trapped between the face plate & the lcd. Just make sure the lcd & the back side of the face plate is free from dust before you put them back. AVOID any abrasive contact on the backside of the face plate. I'll see if I can post a pic on how to open the psp.

I have yet to see individual buttons for sale, the only ones I've seen are usually packaged with the face plate. If a button isn't functioning, there are rubber contacts beneath the buttons that relays the button presses to the psp. Its these rubber contacts that might be defective. Here are the screws you have to take out to open the psp. This is for the old fat model. I'm not sure if it's the same for the slim. For the 2 on the left, you'll have to peel off the sticker to get to the screws. This voids the warranty btw. Bale 4 screws would be black, while the one on the bottom is silver.

when i open up my slim psp i recently notice it takes quite a while to load....i only see a blue screen (blue screen of death)...and it keeps doin that for a while until yesterday that i couldnt stand it anymore and went to the shop where i purchased.....the technician look at the problem and said that the psp umd disc keeps running even if i already moded it....he said it keeps running and searching for an umd disc inside.....thats why they dont "recommend modding your psp"..... so ask him if its serious or not.....he reply not really...got two options to go to the problem....either i buy an original umd disc or i just open up the umd door everytime the problem happens..... so ending.....i just bought a slightly used original umd disc....w/c cost around Php 561.00.....its an old title BTW...NBA07......aaarrrgh......hate it coz my psp is just 6 months old......if this keeps happening .....then the technician said ive got no choice but to replace the umd lens w/c cost around 3k - 3.5k.....(rough estimate) darn!!!!

Get the slim, no reason to get the fat unless you don't mind the extra bulk & weight. Although I think the fat would be a bit cheaper than the slim since it's being phased out. I'm also planning on upgrading to the slim once the my budget allows it. Those packaged ones in greenhills are probably okay, since they're most likely modified. Just make sure the store you're buying from is trust-worthy.

Get a PSP3000 instead of a PSP2000.

If you're planning to get a PSP 3000 you have to know that the only hack available for the time being is the "chicken hack" and the downside is that you Cannot turn this unit off nor can you let the batteries run out.
When this happens your unit will reboot to it's original state practically removing any unwanted stuff in its system like the "chicken hack".
Unscrupulous sellers will not tell you this so buyer beware. There is a cheaper solution to getting the chicken hack running again without having to pay a technician... I can only say that Google IS your friend...

As for my Lavender Purple unit, there are already scratches and dents on the side but with no technical problems (well aside from one dead pixel which is actually not noticeable), and my unit has been dropped numerous times already (within about 2 years after it was bought brand-new). By the way, we're off topic already.
