To put it simply, Tamiya compound is polishing wax usually applied as a final coat to automotive kits or to any kit you want to have a shiny finish. It's rarely used in Gundam but it's your choice.

Professional modelers however prefer using Future Floor Polish because it doesn't need rebuffing like wax; you only need a clean soft cloth.
