Ok now the review....
First of all...It would be unfair to compare this wonderful piece of valkyrie machinery with the 1/48 valks cause its a whole different thing when put together with. The 1/60 scale version 2 is an improved version of the first released 1/60 Yamato valks and is in anyway suppose to go head to head with the 1/48's.
With that, here are the improvements and differences from the 1st ver 1/60 valks...
1. Perfect transformation. The new 1/60's follow the perfect change feature seen in the 1/48's meaning no removing or interchanging of parts. They come with the swivel joints for the legs making easier transformation to fighter mode.
2. The thingypit is non removable unlike with the old 1/60 you have to take them out and attach the heat sheilds. The thingypit swivels up and the heatshield is attached to the cheast area again a feature taken from the 1/48's.
3.Very little die-cast content.Perhaps this is where the first 1/60 valks gets an edge where in they have a hefty amount of die-cast in the leg area...the die-cast for the new 1/60's are limited to the landing gears and swivel bars.
4. Detailed fastpacks as well as sturdier attachement.
In a nutshell, the VF-1S version 2 is like a minaturized 1/48valk with major improvements in terms of sturdiness and transformation. When I say sturdy I mean sturdy. For those familar with the 1/48 transformation scheme then you wouldnt have a problem with transforming these babies. I've always been a fan of the 1/60 valks since they were first released and for beginner Macross collectors these are good starter valks since size wise I think these are the most proportionate in terms of playability and possability.
Also dont be afraid to pop out some of the pegs during transformation. They may seem tight at first but if done correctly they just pop out with ease.
Also be careful of this part...
The peg connecting the leg to the upper body can be prone to breaking if too much pressure is applied.
The bad?
Well, attaching the swivel bar to the nose cone area in fighter mode is quite tricky.Theres a certain way of doing it (unlike with the 1/48's the hood where you just drop it in) so this may be a problem for newbie valk owners. Also, I wasnt happy with the hands. I was hoping Yamato improved on this. Although they are more able to hold the gunpod compared with the bigger 1/48's theres a chance for the wrist area to loosen in time.
Overall what can I say? this valk is amazing! As a longtime Macross fan I'd have to say Yamato has done quite well in improving on their 1/60 design. Aside from that, you get value for your money (got mine for P5800) since these come with a fast pack set already unlike the 1/48's where in you have to purchase it separately (and good luck looking for a cheap 1/48 fast pack set these days). Its dispalyability, playability, detail and sturdiness factor gets a perfect 10 in my book. Aside from the minor issues which Im willing to overlook, Id recomend this valk any collector. If you need to have one valk in your collection with high detail and at the same time budget in mind this is the valk to get!
