Upcoming Star Wars: Clone Wars CG movie

CG animation has really allowed Lucas to pull out all the stops with the battle scenes:

I think I prefer a different style for the characters, but the vehicle textures and designs look very good... Maybe they'll consider Episode 7-9 in animation someday...

SPOILER-FREE BULLET REVIEW: STAR WARS CLONE WARS

Good:
- ground battles nicely done, you see a lot more of it than in ep 2 and 3
- space battle scenes allow you to get really close to the capital ships and see lots of eye candy;
- new ships and machines, new characters
- the clones have more character
- story moves along at a regular pace so there aren't really long boring moments
- some shots/transitions are so good you almost think it's not CG
- color palettes per scene are pretty good, and the textures are quite interesting
- best seen in a large theater

Bad:
- story-wise it's pretty simple: battle, set up plot, battle, rescue, battle, lightsaber duel, escape, battle, lightsaber duel, battle, resolution... it's pretty obvious it was written for 10-year olds and younger
- dialogue is similarly cartoonish, and the droid jokes fall really flat
- character movements are marionette-like and inconsistent, sometimes very fluid and sometimes very stiff
- a Hutt larvae that's the movie tries way too hard to portray as being cute
- lightsaber duels not well choreographed, they missed several opportunities there
- they tampered with the music!!!

Rather disturbing:
- the amount of violence is surprising, given that it's supposed to be for children...there's decapitation and murder in full uncensored view...what makes it disturbing is that it seems to be ok to show it because there no blood spurting anywhere
- the way the Jedi used the clones, you'd think they were droids...i mean at the end of each battle, try figuring out how many are actually killed out of the posse

Overall verdict
- as a movie it's underwhelming, it's probably best as 30-minute cartoons on a large widescreen TV...but i prefer Tartakovsky's Clone Wars Season 1

As a prequel to the tv series to be shown on Cartoon Network... the only surprising thing I noticed was the version of the theme... I do like the old or the prequels version of the theme than this one though.

Sadly I don't have CN... ;D
