Hello people,
I've been looking through paint tips, both in this forum and others. I feel I'm almost psychologicaly ready for painting.
Just one thing. I want to ask if my planned order of application is correct:
1. primer 2. paint 3. protective coating(can't remember the correct term. i believe gloss coat is used here for ease of panelling) 4. panel lines 5. flat/gloss top coat depending on my desires
Please comment and/or add anything if you so desire.

That's correct. If you plan to use decals then it should be: 1. primer 2. paint 3. gloss topcoat 4. panel lines 5. gloss topcoat 6. decals 7. flat/gloss topcoat

Try this
1. primer 2. paint 3. gloss topcoat 4. panel lines 5. decals 6. gloss topcoat 7. flat/gloss topcoat
If your planning to use Flat Coat as your finishing touch, gloss top coat first the decals so that it wont frost(is the term right?).

I just re-read this from a Tamiya manual for those who are interested to know why some paints react badly to others...
The correct Paint order for various type of paints is as follows:
Lacquer - being the base coat for everything so this is more likely the Tamiya spray paints (being the source of the article)
Acrylic - for smaller detail paintings
Enamel - for fine detailing and dry brushing or weathering...
Thus said I wonder what type Gunze Sangyo's Mr. Surfacer is? It is usually used for top coating... or so...

Mr Surfacer (both 500 and 1000) is a lacquer-based paint... or so said the saleslady when i inquired ;D

Then it wouldn't be a good idea to paint anything with chrome effect before applying Mr. Surfacer since it will have adverse reaction...

Mr. Surfacer? I don't think that's for topcoating. Mr. Surfacer is usually used for priming. And like most primers, it is lacquer.
Mr. Topcoat (acrylic) and Mr. Super Clear (lacquer) is the one.

Thanks I need clarification on my Mr. spray paints since I saw a pic of it being used finishing a recolored MSiA figure in an old mag...
I'm used to using Tamiya enamels so I'm really new to Gunze's products... thanks
