Hi I'm re-purposing this thread for a very important news regarding the Wii and for those who own 1 like I do. Beware of fake Wiimote (Wii remote) (I like calling it Wiimote ) being sold as originalsI just bought a second Wiimote and to my luck I could have bought a fake and because I was to eager to get one I didn't realise that fakes are being sold already. And yes they are packaged the same way as the original so check this place out for an in-depth ( because he opened them up) investigation of the fakes over originals... forum.lowyat.net/topic/939583I'm keeping this part for further info on what this thread was about...

My experience with modded consoles have been hassle-free most of the time. When buying modded consoles, make sure the store selling the console can also service it and offers some sort of warranty. As far as lifespan goes, it's hard to tell since every console is built differently. Most of the cases I've see when a console breaks down is mainly due to the lens getting burned out. I got a modded ps2 back in 2003 and it still functions and never have I brought it in for repairs.
The only problem with modding the current-gen consoles is the issue of updating the firmware or patching the games. I was commissioned by a friend to buy a modded Wii, the sales person said never to update anything in the wii including the games or the it will loose the mod. In the 360, you won't be able to connect to their Live service once they detected your console was modded. The bottom line is if you just want to play games & you're not concerned about updates, patches, & going online, get a modded console.
It would also help to keep yourself updated to the trends of the modding scene so can keep track of the developments. The PSP for example have a very lively community of hackers & modders that keeps up with whatever anti-modding protection Sony throws at them.

Thanks I needed that, I'm not in any hurry to grab a console (bonus is not yet here eh ;D ) and that should help me and possibly others who are planning to get a new unit for Christmas. ;D
