For all other Trekkies out there the new Star Trek movie is out.
The movie is written by the same people working on Fringe and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen.
Sorry this logo was edited on the fly from a wallpaper download owned and copyrighted by Paramount... (Thanks for this movie)
But before delving into the world of Star Trek, you have to ignore all knowledge of the old Star Trek movies. Why you may ask? Because this is not your father's Star Trek movie because of the storyline.
I just saw the first regular showing of Star Trek in Starmall EDSA and it was a blast, literally since the sound system is rocking the whole cinema. At 110 a ticket it was a savings compared to the other places in the area. The screen size seem to fit the widescreen nicely compared to watching the Transformers movie where the rest of the movie don't fit the screen.
Before the movie started a couple of previews of upcoming movies were shown; and watching the previews of the new Transformers movie and G.I. Joe on the big screen is quite an experience that makes you drool for the movie to come soon.
The movie starts with the arrival of a Romulan mining ship passing through what looks like a black hole. A Federation Starship investigating the area soon realised this was a hostile, but their weapons were no match.
Ok unless you want to see the movie I'll cut my babbling here.
The first quarter of the movie will fill you on the future crew of the USS Enterprise, except for Scotty. At this point the Trekkie in me was having fun naming the crew from memory as far as I can recall.
The movie is one great ride in the theater since unlike the rest of the Star Trek movies ever made, this one will not bore you to death. Let's just say that this was created to appease the taste of present moviegoers, a time when most people expect more action than talkies.
The rest of the movie deals with the Romulan ship problem and the fate of the crew of USS Enterprise.
If you've seen the rest of the Star Trek movies you will realise why the writers didn't include the original Capt. Kirk to appear in this movie. I know the sentiment but the storyline would be compromised otherwise.
If you're not aware of the Star Trek franchise, this is one movie you should see since there's no better movie that opened this week than this one. (Wolverine opened a week earlier)
If you're a Trekkie, I hope you enjoy the ride 'cos I sure did enjoy every minute of it.
