One of the most anticipated releases from Fans Project has finally hit Philippine shores and its time for another review!
WB001 Warbot Defender is Fans Project's first take on releasing a fully transformable Transformer figure and I must say they certainly delivered! For years TF fans had to be contended with several repaints of previously released molds to get Springer but it was FP that gave this character the best incarnation to date.
Now on to the review....
Packaging:
Ok, I know to most people this is a minor thing but I for one give props to FP for excellent packaging. Aside from the main box, the toy is packed in an exterior transparent box and a plastic bag.
Front View:
Back View:
Contents:
Inside you get Springer, a manual and bag of accesories which include 2 pistols, a sword and a stand attachment.
Manual:
As with the City Commander add-on set, the manual also acts as a short mini-comic featuring "warbot" in a Wrecker storyline.
Robot Mode:
Ok where to start...Springer is meant to be a deluxe size TF and for its size its weight is quite impressive. It has a solid feel and is quite heavy for a deluxe. The pistols can be stored in the sides of the toy while the sword can be attached to the figures back.
Not much kibble but there is some hollow space between the back and front of the toy.
Action Shots:
Joints are tight and stable, more than the one made by Hasbro.
I haven't fully explored Springers possability but surprisingly you can do a lot of poses with him. There is articulation in the thigh and knee areas while the elbows are ball jointed.
Transformation:
One thing that the Hasbro released Universe Springers lacked was that they weren't able to feature one of his main points which was him being a triple changer. Fans Project was able to do this quite well although the transformation sequence is a bit complex. It took me a while to transform him between modes.
Armored Car Mode:
I never really did get G1 springers alt mode. His form looked awkward and didn't look anything like a fututristic armored car so to speak. FP finally gave this mode justice.
Helicopter Mode
Transforming Springer from Armored Car to Helicopter mode isn't as complicated as it seems as depicted in the manual. The directions are a bit confusing so sometimes its better to just wing it on some parts.
Since this is an unofficial product, FP crossed over two companies with this toy. The stand attachment is to be used with Gundam stands and its actually mentioned in the manual although the word Gundam/ Gundam Display Base is replaced with "Popular Model Kit Stand/Display Base". Lol.
The attachment is for Springers Helicopter mode.
Parting Shot:
With the rest of the Wreckers. "WRECK AND RULE!!!!"
Finally! I'm not a repaint!
In closing, the plastic quality of this toy is very good and has a solid vinyl feel to it. Its pretty much a notch higher compared with the quality of the City Commander kit. I have no issues with the paint applications and my only complaint is that the joints are prone to loosening if you keep on transforming it. For its price (got mine for less than P3.5K) its worth every peso.
