depends on you..but if you really wanna feel the designer's passion..displaying it out of the box is the best way..I don't really see the reason why some people don't remove the figs from their box but it's not my business to mind them..me I display them in my cabinet so that I can see how beautiful the figure is..
and besides...what's the reason you bought it in the first place?

If you ever display, try to avoid direct sunlight where you place it. Depending on where you display it, the plastic might warp on very crucial points like ankles. I've seen this happen myself having collected several. It happens whether it's the Ame-Comi series of DC Direct or Japanese PVCs.
I don't know if they're designed for Temperate conditions and not Tropical like ours. I've since put on a hiatus on collecting until I can figure out how to repair them. Either that or the Japanese make a product design breakthrough that avoids the warping effect.

place the pvcs in a cool place, even a room which is hot can be a factor other than sunlight

hehe ;D Some people who have the $$ to burn buy the same figs in pairs, so one will be displayed intact and the other one will be unleashed to the mortal realm ;D hahaha
I agree that is has a different appeal if its still in the box compared to the opened ones. Especially if you're a visual designer/ artist, too.
I open most of my figs i bought. DOnt have the $$ to buy spares, but some I reserve as MOC/MISB (some rares--i think) for future use, for trades, that could help get the figure which might be above my spending limit. I hope so.

To open or not to open that is a question... the only important question I have for you would be...
"Why did you buy the figure in the first place?"
Why? Because, we all have our differences in criteria of how we manage our figures. Some buy for collection purposes, some buy for the love of it and some buy for future value.
For collectors it's often opening the box and enjoying the quality before he/she return it to the box only to open them for personal reason or to "show off" to curious friends...
For toy lovers, they just buy them because they want them. They can either be a collector or an enthusiast...
For those who buy then keep them in storage, there's a thin line between knowing what is going to be of "great value" in the future and storing crap... you'd have to have a good eye on what is going to sell big and not to join this group because you wouldn't want to have so much stuff in storage which will eventually just become useless. Remember that not all "Limited Editions" will become that limited after 30 or 50 years for the simple fact that there are more collectors getting the same idea.
In the end it's all up to you since you're the one who will live with your purchase however you want to end up with it... I myself am a collector and display my toys until I find something to replace them so they don't get so old on display... rotation is the key to keep the collection fresh...
